About this listen

In this inspiring novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Danielle Steel, the life of a Parisian woman changes in a heartbeat when she's trapped by wildfires in Napa Valley.

Born to a French mother and American father, graceful Dahlia de Beaumont has been sole owner and CEO of the venerable family perfume business based in Paris since her early twenties, following the death of her parents. For twenty-five years, after losing her young skier husband in an avalanche, her life has centered on running Lambert Perfumes and being a devoted single mother to her four now-adult children: indecisive Charles, volatile Alexa, kind-hearted business visionary Delphine, and dreamy artist Emma. Now fifty-six, she has an "arrangement" with a married French man but has been questioning that relationship.

Dahlia comes to San Francisco on a routine business trip to check on her stores in the States. But shortly after her arrival, brush fires ignite in Napa Valley. Watching the sweeping devastation on the news, Dahlia is moved to help. But doing so will bring unforeseen consequences that endanger not only her life, but her entire future. Forced to remain in San Francisco in the aftermath, she will make unexpected connections while also fighting to protect all she has worked for. What Dahlia learns will provide a new perspective of her life, forever changing what really matters to her and what comes next for her journey.

With this uplifting novel, Danielle Steel beautifully dramatizes how life's unforeseen challenges can sow the seeds for growth and a fresh chance at love—if one is willing to take the risk.

Her misrepresention of the legal system and putting lawyers into classes Not all personal injury lawyers are sleezy. Leads me to question if her representation of other professions is accurate. But it's Danielle Steele who always classes people as aristocrats or not. Purely escapist reading for me.

DS' take on the legal system.

I’m a romantic so I loved how this story ended. I hated the Philip character and the woman from the crash and I liked the Mark character. . I liked the narrator, very soothing throughout.

Great story

This book has it all. Love story with a perfect family that changes on a dime and how the main character raises her 4 children all while managing a very successful business in Paris. As in France she develops a long term relationship with a married man all the while knowing it will go nowhere.
She travels to key cities in the US and ends up in the midst of wildfires in CA. This is where the meat of the story is and how her future changes. One of her daughters is one to dislike for sure. Selfish, Narcissist who treats her mother terribly.
After the experience in CA so much changes and there is quite the happy ending.

Good narration as well.

Another hit from DS

After listening to the first three chapters, I almost stopped listening. It was about her children, her family, her business.... ad nauseum.. for me it was overkill and annoyingly repetitive ... but after that, it began getting very interesting and continued to do so. I'm glad I hung in there.. I would suggest giving it a chance.

Lovely Romantic story

One of her best!!

Per modus operandi, ds writes of a woman and her family’s and men’s life challenges in the milieu of the rich and famous. Financially, they are 1 to 5 cuts above most of us. She includes nature’s historical and current crises. Her plots grow more masterful in successive novels. The author’s learning keeps her young, simultaneously teaching us.

1 to 5 Cuts Above

it started off so slow I almost stopped listening! Two or three chapters of just narration in a droll pace. no personality. the voice was OK but so boring. the story ended typically!
