Publisher's summary
Paris of the 1920s: a time of artistic inspiration, jazz clubs, the Charleston, post World War One romance, and a time of creative energy in all the arts: the era of Hemingway and Fitzgerald, Gershwin, Picasso, and Modigliani.
Audrey Hamilton, a young American woman, comes to Paris to seek her fortune as an artist. Lurking beneath the glamour of the city, however, in a nation still recovering from the Great War of 1914-18, is the dark spiritual force of the poet Charles Baudelaire. Evil will rise from the moody old Cemetery of Montparnasse to ensnare Audrey's spirit and drag her to her doom.
Twenty Flowers of Evil is a literary novel, an historical novel, a love story, and a memorable spiritual story of a special time and place: Paris during les annees folles (the crazy years).
Noel Hynd is the author of several of the best-selling ghost stories ever, including the Literary Guild Selections Ghosts, Cemetery of Angels, and A Room for the Dead as well as the historical thrillers Flowers from Berlin and Return to Berlin.
Karine Stader, the illustrator, is a distinguished French artist from Brittany. Her work has been exhibited in France, Germany, Holland and the United States, most recently at WonderCon 2019 in Anaheim, California.

Wyatt Gwyon's desire to forge is not driven by larceny but from love. Exactingly faithful to the spirit and letter of the Flemish masters, he produces uncannily accurate "originals" - pictures the painters themselves might have envied. In an age of counterfeit emotion and taste, the real and fake have become indistinguishable; yet Gwyon's forgeries reflect a truth that others cannot touch - cannot even recognize.

One of Soseki's most beloved works of fiction, the novel depicts the 23-year-old Sanshiro leaving the sleepy countryside for the first time in his life to experience the constantly moving 'real world' of Tokyo, its women and university. In the subtle tension between our appreciation of Soseki's lively humour and our awareness of Sanshiro's doomed innocence, the novel comes to life. Sanshiro is also penetrating social and cultural commentary.

Published in 1922, Fitzgerald's second novel chronicles the relationship of Anthony Patch, Harvard-educated, aspiring aesthete, and his beautiful wife, Gloria, as they await to inherit his grandfather's fortune. A devastating satire of the nouveaux rich and New York's nightlife, of reckless ambition and squandered talent, it is also a shattering portrait of a marriage fueled by alcohol and wasted by wealth. Although it is little known in this country, The Belly of Paris is considered one of Émile Zola’s best novels. Set in the newly built food markets of Paris, it is a story of wealth and poverty set against a sumptuous banquet of food and commerce. Having just escaped from prison after being wrongfully accused, young Florent arrives at Paris’ food market, Les Halles, half starved, surrounded by all he can’t have, and indignant at his world, which he now knows to be unjust. He finds that the city’s working classes have been displaced to make way for bigger streets and bourgeois living quarters, so he settles in with his brother’s family.

Story
One of the greatest prose writers and social commentators of the 20th century, Aldous Huxley here introduces us to a delightfully cynical, comic, and severe group of artists and intellectuals engaged in the most free-thinking and modern kind of talk imaginable. Poetry, occultism, ancestral history, and Italian primitive painting are just a few of the subjects competing for discussion among the amiable cast of eccentrics drawn together at Crome, an intensely English country manor.

This exquisite, resonant novel by PEN/Faulkner winner James Salter is a brilliant portrait of a marriage by a contemporary American master. It is the story of Nedra and Viri, whose favored life is centered around dinners, ingenious games with their children, enviable friends, and near-perfect days passed skating on a frozen river or sunning on the beach.

Story
This remarkable novel begins in 1850s Louisiana, where Gilda escapes slavery and learns about freedom while working in a brothel. After being initiated into eternal life as one who "shares the blood" by two women there, Gilda spends the next 200 years searching for a place to call home. An instant lesbian classic when it was first published in 1991, The Gilda Stories has endured as an auspiciously prescient book in its explorations of blackness, radical ecology, re-definitions of family, and yes, the erotic potential of the vampire story.

Loved Roaring 20s Paris BUT...
I love putting myself into a story and experience life as it was, which the author did so well. The roaring 20s left behind an opening of abandon and free spirit which was sorely needed, much like the 60s.
The storyline was not as good to me, maybe because I value as much detail of how the person is experiencing change, what she is thinking, feeling, processing with each new encounter.
I felt that the author whisked through quite a bit without going deeper just to mention the depravities.
The ending had a nice resolution regarding the missing person but I felt that Audrey's recovery was just glossed over to present. I wondered how her art morphed without the absinthe.
