About this listen

A witch is cursed to relive a doomed love affair through many lifetimes, as both troubled muse and frustrated artist, in this haunting debut novel.

Helen Lambert has lived several lives - a young piano virtuoso in 1890s Paris, an actress in 1930s Hollywood, a rock star in 1970s Los Angeles - only she doesn't know it. Until she meets a strange man who claims he's watched over her for centuries, bound to her from the beginning.

At first, Helen doesn't believe him. Her life is as normal as any other modern career woman's. Then she begins having vivid dreams about ill-fated love and lives cut short.

Caught in a curse, Helen will be forced to relive the same tragic events that ruined her previous lives. But with each rebirth, she's developed uncanny powers. And as the most powerful version of herself, Helen must find a way to break the curse before her time runs out.

A Witch in Time is a bewitching tale of passion, reincarnation, and magic perfect for fans of A Secret History of Witches and Outlander.

Critic reviews

"With lush historical details and a wicked sense of humor, A Witch in Time fully immerses the reader in the story of Helen and her fated demon, unpacked like nesting dolls across time and lives, fortune and chance. From Belle Epoque France to modern-day D.C., from worlds pastoral, decadent, flashy to commercial, Sayers weaves a spell of love, lust and magic to create a page-turner like no other. All the thrill of a Discovery of Witches, with all the mystery and epic romance of Richard Matheson's classic Somewhere in Time." (Steph Post, author of Miraculum)

"Sayers cleverly twists the loves-lost-through-time motif.... A smart, engrossing debut from a writer to watch." (Kirkus Reviews)

"Sayers traverses time periods effortlessly with lush, graceful descriptions.... This spiraling narrative will appeal to fans of historical fiction and complicated love stories." (Publishers Weekly)

Ground hog day meets the time traveller

This is a very different story about a woman who is reincarnated based on a curse her mother placed on her. Without providing any spoilers - This is a journey of each of her lives and how she pieces together the mysteries in order to survive.

It's interesting, different but you must pay attention in order to follow who is which character....and by saying that it doesn't reflect the narration, but the journey in reincarnation. I found the story dragged at times, but enjoyed the story.

Absolutely Enthralling

I loved every aspect of this book. It’s a very different Witch story. It’s kind of like The Time Traveler’s Wife, Outlander and A Discovery of Witches all rolled into one. I loved the details of time periods and the how each life was so different, yet the same. It makes you wonder if we really are born again and all aspects of our personality is determined by those experiences. It was a wonderful twist regarding the love story. I’m glad they clarified the mother’s version because you keep wondering why she would have gone to such great lengths to do what she did. It all makes sense once you understand. The only part I longed for more explanation was where did Luke come from. I almost wondered if she was a part of his past where he had done something to wrong her and this was his punishment to earn her back. I think a second book about his life would be fascinating. I highly recommend reading this. I’m saddened that I just finished it.

Good book.

Way better than expected. Listened on a long drive, made the miles speed by. Highly recommend. Narrators were not consistent with pronunciation of some names. I found that irritating...probably just me, the wannabe perfectionist! Well worth buying!!

A delightful surprise!

I don’t even remember buying this book but I’m so glad I did. The characters were so real and engaging. The story had a new twist. Definitely worth the listen.

Fantastic narration of a fantastic book!

To say I loved this book is an understatement. It left me clutching my chest, sighing, crying happy/sad tears. The book was well researched and well written, the characters coming off the page as vibrant and colorful as the different worlds they inhabited. I loved the story, the weaving in and out of the different lives, etc. But I must say - these narrators really did a fantastic job of bringing the story to the listeners. The accents, the different voices - all so well done! Bravo!

I enjoyed it despite its many flaws

I am really difficult in listening to audible and when I listen to something it has to be really good to keep me interested. Mostly I ready sci fi and classic reads, so witch love stories is not my forte!
The narration was great - at the same level as Ray Porter and William Dufris and elevated the experience.
The writing is good as mentioned in other reviews.
I ended up finding this book after reading REPLAY - ONE OF MY BEST AUDIBLE EXPERIENCES EVER-, trying to find something similar in tone and theme (still haven't ready Time travelers wife - its in my wishlist-. The author has been definitely influenced by it but has thrown in a bunch of other stuff in the mix which in my opinion makes it worse than better.
As seen in other reviews there is something missing, and its sometimes not here nor there!!
In the end I am not sure if I wanted any explanation for why things are happening as it might have been better if it was just a love story bound by unseen forces - tragic story without any supernatural aspect to it or as other people say maybe it should keep more of the supernatural aspect and explain more stuff and have more "sith" action!!. It feels to me that the side stories were of no importance- I didn't care for them. The witch theme is a bit forced - at least for me- and it might have worked maybe better without it.
However, it is what it is and after the first two-three chapters and all the weird stuff- weird dialogues that don't make me feel it that much it keeps me interested in staying for the whole ride and it gets better as the character evolves. A lot of potential in the idea and enjoyed the 30s, lost me afterwards with the weird ### going on, but somehow never reaches the greatness of what it could have been. I did like it all the way to the end though with its good and bad!!
It is again very entertaining when I have returned many many audiobooks which few were considered classic but couldn't keep me focused in the story good or bad. You will know if you like it within the first two hours..

Pleasantly surprised

Chose this book on a whim and I ended up really liking it. The narrators were great. It dragged a bit in the middle and I was happy to move on from that part of the story (Nora's story) but it picked up again from there. I kept waiting for it to become a little more action packed but it was more of a love story. I still really enjoyed it, worth the credit!

Loved it

Well developed characters make it work. A little different from a typical reincarnation. Held my interest. I recommend it.
