Publisher's summary

Randy Willis tells the raw-boned epic, based on his own ancestors, that gives American history a new face and a fresh voice.

A novel about adventure, family, faith and the character of a man who touched generations.

Twice a Slave is the story of a Cherokee slave, a forbidden romance, and tragedies that build faith. One man who is determined to find his purpose and discover his identity becomes a slave a second time, and he changes the course of history in Louisiana.

He was born into slavery before the American Revolution, the son of a Cherokee mother and an English father who faced incredible difficulties. Even though Joseph's life was threatened because of his race and faith, he became the first Protestant to preach the gospel west of the Mississippi River.

Love the book but the recording was frustrasting

How could the performance have been better?

Every 3 min. it would break up words and delete sections. and the chapters were not in sync with the narration chapters.

Any additional comments?

I love this book because it talks about my great-grandfather's story and it is done so well. Thank the Lord I have the physical book so I can go back and read the stuff the audio skipped.

Twice a Slave

This story is told in first person format as a grandfather tells his grandson about his life. Born to an Indian slave and her white husband owner, he is considered a slave to all but his father. Upon the death of his father he is forced to live as a slave on his own land. While he is eventually granted his freedom he is forced to leave his home. He and his wife and children begin the journey of spreading the gospel amongst the unclaimed territories.

It is a very detailed story. The narration was extremely well done. Tom Lennon did a good job bringing the story to life and making you feel as though you were there along side Joseph Willis.

Will definitely recommend this book to others.

Great Story of Faith and Sacrifice 😇

This book won't be everyone's preference but I'm very glad for the opportunity to enjoy this true story that is filled with family, faith, and determination. 🌟

This is the story of Joseph Willis whose life is a remarkable journey of slavery, prejudice, determination, forgiveness and faith. The challenges he endured in life were tremendous yet they made him a better man. This is not only a book about the life and ancestry of Joseph Willis but the heritage of the Christian faith and the sacrifices that were made to spread the faith across the Country. The USA was founded on Bible principles & standards and people like Willis pioneered the crusade to build churches and spread the Word of God. This book revealed to me of how much I take for granted, how grateful I am for people like Willis, and how blessed I am to live in a Country where I can worship freely. 😁 If you love interesting stories with religious history I highly recommend this book. I loved it!

The.narrator did a good job with this book. All accents and male/female voices were clear and distinct.

My heartfelt thanks to the author, narrator, or publisher for providing me this audio book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Excellent!

I really enjoyed this book. The historical aspect is very interesting, and the faith is what keeps the Man moving forward. He moves all around the areas post Pre and Post Revolutionary.. Also, adding to my enjoyment is the fact that part of the setting is in an area I am very familiar with. KUDOS!

3.5 stars--Longest Sermon ever

I hit send before saying that the Narrator was Outstanding. I would have skipped at least 8 chapters towards the end. The book started out very well and then it became repetitive. To the point of driving me to distraction. see the rest of my review.
