About this listen

While their men fight, America's women produce what's necessary for victory. In a Michigan shipyard, four female co-workers forge a strong bond of friendship that, combined with faith, helps them to overcome oppression, despair, and tragedy - and find love in unlikely places.

Written from four diverse viewpoints, A Woman's Place is an emotionally rich glimpse of life in World Ware II America.

Lynn Austin's three Christy Awards include one for Hidden Places, which was made into a popular Hallmark film.

Complex insights on personal perspective.

Any additional comments?

I am new to Lynn Austin books and took a chance because I was interested in the home front during WWII. The story telling is excellent. The characters are developed masterfully--subtly drawing the reader into a tale of strength, change in adversity and the importance of finding friendship in unlikely places. Austin repeatedly shows how things are not always as they seem on first glance. Ideas of roles, expectations and preconceived notions are examined through the daily lives of the characters. It was a positive, redemptive story that was honestly told and completely engaging until the end. A pleasure.

Honoring women during WWII

I enjoyed the mixing of the 4 women together. My mother worked at an army base while my dad was serving in the war so it was a personal story for me.

Well-written, but...

Lynn Austen is a superb writer and the story is engaging. The audible version is first rate because Christina Moore is the best! My only problem with the book is the underlying theme that a woman should be strong, even going against her husband's will if she thinks he is being unreasonable. I kept waiting for Austen to show in her story that a wife's submission to her husband was good and right, but she never did. That would keep me from recommending the book, but it doesn't take away from the fact that the book is well-written

Great book

I enjoyed this book. I would have been a baby at this time and I could picture my own parents in these same situations. As with all of Austins books I hate to close the page. I will miss the characters.

Diverse Characters

This book addressed so many issues that are still prevalent today! I enjoyed the way in which the author explained various events and God's response to those.

Lynn Austin does it again...wowed

Every story is filled with wonderful characters and exciting plotlines. I couldn't get enough of this storyline, I always am sad to hear The End.
Ms Austin works in the spiritual aspects masterfully with perfect timing .

Loved it

I absolutely LOVED this home front WWII novel. I cared about each of the four women who worked at the shipyard. Their lives were each very different, and yet I felt a part of the friendship that developed between them. I have a fondness for WWII novels set on the home front and the burdens shared by the women and families left behind. But Lynn Austin really hit this one out of the park.

The narrator, Christina Moore, did a great job with the accents required. Often, I dislike such attempts but not this time.

Excellent performance

A Woman’s Place was a wonderful story of four different women, who under normal circumstances would never be friends, but who are brought together to work on ships for the American involvement in World War II. It was delightful entertainment. I would be remiss if I did not include the fantastic way that Christina Moore read the book. She is a master of different accents including a NY Bronx accent, a Dutch accent and a German accent. She was also able to keep up the different voices for the different characters. I loved listening to her!

Well worth the listen!

I loved this book and the way the lives of these four women were woven together. The depth of the characters and the issues they faced were a realistic reminder of the time. The narrator did a great job too!
