Featured Article: The Twilight Saga—Books vs. Movies

Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga is more than just a young adult series—it was a cultural phenomenon that remains popular and continues to influence young adult literature, vampire fiction, youth culture, and pop culture. The original Twilight Saga includes four young adult fantasy romance novels that were released annually from 2005 through 2008. This series was followed by two companion novels, most recently Midnight Sun, and a novella. All four original Twilight books dominated The New York Times best seller list. In 2020, Stephenie Meyer revealed that she was working on two additional novels.

Life And Death

LAD is definitely has superior storytelling. it was leagues better than Twilight. That being said my ideal version of Twilight would be to replace Edward with Edythe and keep the rest of the Twilight cast as the original rather than the genderbent versions.

I know SMeyer is working on stories about Jacob and RenameMe but I'd much rather have a LAD sequel.

First time readers, enjoy! But read it yourself.

I read Twilight before the movies existed, so I've been a fan of that a long time. This is my first time to listen to it, though. It was also the only time I've ever listened to Life and Death. I'd recommend reading over listening for both of them, but they are both absolutely a fantastic read.

The performers did an excellent job diction wise. It is pretty much only the tone of voice choices that I disagree with. I feel that those choices absolutely will effect a first time readers understanding of the characters in a negative way. That could be the performers choice, or the directors, I'd imagine, but either way, for a first time read, I highly recommend you physically read these.

As for the reimagining... there may be light spoilers ahead, but I'll try to keep them to a minimum... there were aspects of it I loved, including more details and story's that Stephanie added to this newer version. I think it might have been perfect except for some of the unnecessary changes. Primarily changes I found to be rather gender biased rather than necessary. It's silly to change something simply because most boys don't do ballet, for example. In fact, it would've been nice and very positive to stick up for male ballerinas by keeping that unchanged, and that's only one small example. There were many examples of the authors changes between versions that could have been less sexist.

Aside from those two main complaints, I deeply enjoyed the reimagining and listening to the original text for the first time. I had put off reading the reimagining for a long time, and now I'm very glad I finally have it a chance.

I was surprised

so I always hated the original because it felt so creepy, but it feels oddly more alive. I got lost and enjoyed it throughly, the only thing I really wanted was to see him spit in joss's face.

I liked it a lot!

The reimagined version of twilight wasn't quiet what I expected.... I liked it though. Listening to this book and as going through the events of twilight as they happened to Bo vs. how they happened to Bella I found it quite interesting and entertaining. I liked the different stories for the characters.

Keep an open mind

Just like many other reviews state, you have to keep an open mind. I had just finished the Midnight Sun book and wanted to reread the Twilight book when I found this set. SPOILER - yes, the revisioned version does not have the same ending. However, if you know how the original Saga ends, it clearly could not end the same. The characters were very similar to the originals with a tad twist of their own which I loved. It was a perfect addition to the what if branched off storylines I think many teenagers try to imagine when reading through the series and it is directly addressed by the author through this book. If they ever chose to make it to a movie along with the new additions to the series, I would still be just as excited for them as I was as a teenager.

half and half

I mostly didn't appreciate the reimagining of Twilight. I was bothered that ALL the sexes were reversed except for Charlie. I don't feel that was needed. I can see the friends and siblings but not everyone.I still loved the original so it balanced to four stars

A Story with a Grotesque Reflection

I bought this audio book for Life and Death only since I’ve already read Twilight. Honestly, I was severely disappointed and could only view the title as a cash cow. I won’t spoil anything, but essentially this book is Twilight copy and pasted with only minor differences.
My rating would have been one star; however, since this audiobook comes with Twilight, it forces me to mix their ratings together.
