About this listen

When federal agent Aaron Yazzie is assigned to protect the only witness to a drug cartel execution, he hides Kailyn Eudailey in the safest place he knows...the vast, untamed wilderness of the Navajo Reservation.

Transporting Kailyn to New Mexico may not be as easy as Aaron would like. Kailyn is a high-maintenance Southern belle who is determined to assert her independence at every step. Although Aaron's job is to protect her from the dangers that could get them both killed, Kailyn is getting to him. As an undercover agent, Aaron has grown adept at playing many roles. But will he be able to embrace his true identity and God’s plan for his life in order to keep Kailyn alive?

Story line was great. Mild suspense, great characters, good action. Loved the setting and the history of the tradition. The performance was ok. Female character did sound like a smoker, male character was not a masculine voice, but the story was awesome and I could not put it down. Narrator did not by any means sound like a true southern lady. Accent was totally off. I got used to the voices and finished the story and it was great. Will read more stories from this author, I’m just hoping she will have a different narrator.

Awesome story. Eh narrator

First read of this author, and I was enthralled from beginning to end! The characters were relatable and the story live was sweet. Looking forward to her next book.

Excellent story

Not surprised that this book boils down to girl meets guy, both experience adversity, both experience uncertainty, they live happily every after. I was a little surprised at the religious undertones, although the message wasn't strong until the end. I agree with the reviewer who described it as a little preachy. Speaking of the end, I listened to the end several times because I felt like I missed the happily ever after part. I felt like it ended abruptly. The author's knowledge of the Marshall's service and FBI procedure was weak. Pretty sure neither agency would lose track of an agent and client for several months without moving heaven and earth to find them. Also, if an agent goes awol for several months, I'm pretty sure there's more in store for him than amicable separation and severance pay. There was no debriefing for our agent after he disobeyed an order and fled with a witness who was part of an op he was not assigned to, staying in hiding for several months. I was also surprised at the naiveté of the author with regard to the native American storyline. In my experience, a non-native would marry a native, but they wouldn't live on the res. Overall, I gave the book 3 stars for keeping me engaged until the end. I did appreciate the growth of the characters, moving beyond old pain and into forgiveness and service to others, and it got an extra star because the dog was well-loved and well-cared for. Like other reviewers, I was mostly ok with the narrator in that she was conversational, but her Spanish was bad. Especially horrible was Flores, who sounded Chinese.

A little formulaic, a little maudlin

Reading is “lilting” throughout. Sounds a bit like a continual commercial. Great story, but reading doesn’t match the emotional climate of the various parts of the story.

I would recommend this book for people teenaged as well as older readers. It was an excellent read. Once I started reading, I could not put it down. Love the Native American history in it. This book has many lessons of love and forgiveness as well as the damage that gangs and violence can cause. Beautiful story, wonderfully written. This is a must read.

Excellent book, a must read.
