Publisher's summary

Female alphas are unheard of in werewolf society, and the Sapphire Pack is no different. So when Lena's father dies, no one is more shocked than she to discover that his alpha powers have transferred to her. Lena has her hands full protecting her pack from hunters and rogue wolves, while simultaneously facing prejudices and power-hungry males who want to mate with her just to steal her title.

But when the uber-sexy Kane enters the picture, Lena gets a lot more than she bargained for. He irritates her to no end, while giving her butterflies at the same time. With his interference and her new-found power bubbling under her skin, something inside her changes, leaving her confused as to what she truly is. She soon discovers that searching for answers is most difficult when the last person she can trust is the only one who has them.

Decent Werewolf Fiction

This was an interesting spin on werewolves slightly different than the other books and movies out there. The story was decent and set up the series quite well.

Lena's father is the Alpha of the Sapphire pack. When he dies unexpectedly, his Alpha powers are transferred to her instead of the pack's Beta. This causes more than just a little confusion since there has never been a female Alpha in any of the packs before.

Added to this already tense series of events is the increasing threat of the hunters and rogue wolves. With other packs falling and coming under attack, Lena has no other option than to involve her pack in the fighting.

What she and the other packs don't realize is that there is another Alpha, a rogue Alpha, puling the strings and attempting to destroy the packs.

Narration was good as well. Though I thought there were some rough spots, the overall narration was all-around good.

Overall a good listen. I will probably get the next book in the series if it is ever released as an audiobook.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, publisher, or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I was NOT required to write a positive review and this reflects my honest opinion of the work.

I could barey put it down, and when I did, my mind kept returning to the story.

Any additional comments?

I felt unfinished at the end and excitingly await the second book in the series. Fantastic read!

An Excellent Book

I received Book Number 2 free, so I had to purchase Book Number 1. I'm glad that I did. It has some very important background that was needed. I loved the story line and the characters. The author did an excellent job of developing the story and the characters. It was difficult to take any breaks from listening to it. Audible doesn't sell book 3 so I'm going to have to find somewhere to get it. I love a strong female and Lena fits the bill. Kane is also very sexy and a great match for her. The narrator did a great job of distinguishing the indivual characters that Bethany Wicker so creatively developed. Looking for the next book in the Series. Love this one.

Mesmerizing Purple eyes...

The cover art is what first attracted me to the book. It made me wonder what how this book was different from other werewolf books. Author, Bethany Wicker, has created a unique society of werewolves. You are immediately pulled in to Lena's "unexpected" situation of becoming a rare female alpha.

You'll have to read/listen to the book yourself, if you want to find out about the mesmerizing purple eyes.

When I finished listening to the book, I immediately checked for the next book in the series. The book is available in print format, but not as an audio book. This series has been added to my list of books I want to continue reading.

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via AudiobookBlast.

I’m interested in seeing where this goes

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend this to a friend who likes paranormal romance or specifically werewolf stories.

Would you be willing to try another book from Bethany Wicker? Why or why not?

Yes, but I would hope that she does a bit more story and world building in future books.

Have you listened to any of Beth Stewart’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to Beth Stewart's other performances, but she's a great narrator.

Do you think Unexpected Alpha needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes. All the big questions are still left unanswered and some of the characters have not been fully developed.

Any additional comments?

I felt at the beginning of the book that the world and characters were not well developed. Eventually the characters gained a bit more backstory and became very likable with the exception of Dash. This first book only gives us a glimpse of Dash and it’s not enough to find him likeable. It’s only through his mother that we learn that he might not be a total scumbag. The story of Kane and Lena was very sweet and I found myself rooting for him and liking the other two couples in the story as well. The pack mentality in this book was a bit annoying with the continual reminders that females are supposed to be submissive and can’t be alpha.

The love story makes this book worth reading and the likeable characters and investment in Lena/Kane story will bring me back for book #2.

Growl Power

Any additional comments?

This was a very good book and showed how young women can do pretty much anything, including leading a werewolf pack. When the female meets her mate sparks fly between them, as they fight for dominance. I won't give anything away by telling you what happens ultimately but it makes a fun listen. Wow!

I don’t usually read many books from this genre, but I really enjoyed this one. The narration brought the story to life and held my interest throughout. The story was well thought out, complete and will keep you listening. I will be watching for this author in the future.

Great plot, has great potential!

This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast.

This book was unique as in plot, a female as an alpha but every guy wolf around is wanting to mate with her so he can be alpha and she can be his Luna. I feel with more character development and background this would have been an amazing book, narration was good, distinguishable voices, I think in the next books moving forward if there was more time spend on character development it would make it a 5 star book.
I would move on to a next book in the series.

Happy reading/listening!!!
