About this listen
THEY’RE EACH OTHER’S BEST HOPE FOR REDEMPTION—AND LOVE
Ex-con Seth Zimmerman has spent the last three years making amends by helping the vulnerable in his former Amish community. Lately, this mission includes calling on Tabitha Yoder, whose divorce from her abusive husband has isolated her from the community. Even though she never comes out of her house to talk to him, Seth knows she watches him from the window while he chops wood, clears her driveway, and drops off food.
An uneasy friendship is just starting to take hold between them when small gifts begin to appear at Tabitha’s home—gifts that can only be from her ex-husband.
Seth might be Tabitha’s only hope at maintaining her hard-won freedom from the man whose violent outbursts had almost cost her life. But coming to her rescue might mean Seth ends up behind bars once again.
“Shelley Shepard Gray pens a story of love, hate, and forgiveness that will touch readers’ hearts and stay with them long after they finish the last page. Gray is a master storyteller who creates characters that are so alive they feel like good friends. My highest recommendation.”—Nancy Mehl, author of the Ryland and St. Clair series

Story
Siblings Martin, Kelsey, Beth, and Jonny are as different as can be, but they have one thing in common. They're all longing to reinvent their lives. Raised by their divorced lapsed-Amish father and English mother, they only knew real stability and a sense of family when visiting their Old Order grandparents, Josiah and Sylvia Schrock, in peaceful small-town Millersburg, Ohio. Now, the four want to try living with them and joining their faith—much to the Schrocks' surprise.

Two little girls stand with their heads bowed in my living room. I’m told they’re my granddaughters. Daisy is nine, and Alice seven. Daisy is the spitting image of her mother. This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince. They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by. I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I said he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.

Then one day the apartment board, a vexing trio of authority, rings his doorbell. And Lucas’s solitude takes a startling hike. They demand to see his frying pan. Disappointing
Although the character was from The Rumors in Ross County series, it is not a part of the series as expected. Very misleading. It was also a very shallow and boring book unlike those in the Rumors series. None of the other characters from the series are in this book or even mentioned. I suspect this book is something written in the past and published now to take advantage of the popularity of the other series. I listened to the end thinking somehow it would get better but it didn’t. Don’t waste your money or credit. This is not par with the author’s other books.
