About this listen

In the first in an engaging new series, an Amish quiltmaker moves from Pennsylvania to a new settlement in Colorado, where adventure, challenges, and love are waiting....

Esther Zook is starting over after her father's death, piecing together a new life with as much care as she puts into her intricate quilts. When her wayward sister abandons her baby, it throws all those plans for a fresh start asunder. Esther had accepted her status as an old maid - but a mother? And a single one, at that? Not that she hasn't noticed Levi Kiem, the eligible young man who's making repairs in her house. Yet he surely has no interest in Esther as anything other than a friend....

It's true that Levi has plenty of marriage prospects. His dat has even offered to send him to Ohio to find a wife. Yet the more time he spends with Esther, the more intrigued he becomes. Feisty and independent, she's nothing like the wife he once imagined for himself. Yet just as a quilt is crafted from contrasting cloth, they might find that together, they can create a family to cherish....

great, wholesome love story

the story was really good. while I am not familiar with Amish life, it is clear the ups and downs of family relations exist anywhere and everywhere. the author"s description of the sisters was powerful and perhaps hit a little too close to home for me. at one point, I was unsure if I would be able to finish the book for that very reason. I did get through and found it to be an enjoyable, although gut-wrenching at times, read.

annoying ear thing

story was cute and predictable. barely made it through due to the eye rolling and annoying habit of putting weird objects behind the ear of main character. cute at first but near the middle became unbelievable objects that no one would put behind their ear. ruined the story.

Finding God’s path for you even if it’s uncomfortable and scary

I loved Ester and Levi’s sweet Amish romance. The story is filled with all the emotions, the connections and the love plus, real relatable issues are addressed and resolved. Ester has recently moved to a new Amish community. Her non-Amish sister unexpectedly abandons her baby at Ester’s house. Just as she discovers the abandoned baby, Levi shows up to work on Ester’s bathroom. It’s a fun and emotional meet cute. On the way to their HEA, Ester and Levi have to deal with miscommunication, manipulative family members, painful pasts in order to learn to trust their own hearts and beliefs to find their way to a loving, respectful, and faith based relationship. This book has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, strong friendships and family, real life issues, imperfect characters, misunderstandings, laughs, and so much love. Jennifer Beckstrand did a phenomenal job of drawing me into the tale which allowed me to feel a part of the story and the characters’ lives rather than a simple observer. The emotions, issues, and challenges the characters face are universal and could easily be experienced in any segment of society. Expect to feel all the feels when you read this book - joy, sorrow, anxiety, love, and relief. You’ll definitely laugh, cry, gasp, and grit your teeth.

Rebecca Mitchell did a phenomenal job narrating the story and breathing life into the characters and the story with enough change of inflection, tone and cadence to voice multiple characters quite convincingly.

Prodigal sister

There always seem to be one in a family that gets away with too much & parents seem to enable but is that only from your view do they feel shame & dishonor
I love Ester humor to laugh at her self & ability to except helping hand & growth in new community
