Publisher's summary

Dr. Kate Turner is happy with her new life in Oak Falls in upstate New York. Working as a relief veterinarian at a small house-call practice, she truly enjoys helping her patients.

All that changes when client Claire Birnham is found dead, an apparent suicide. A talented artist, Claire had everything to live for: a new job,;a Manhattan apartment; her cairn terrier, Toto. As feisty as the Wizard of Oz's Toto, he and Claire were devoted to each other. Kate can't imagine Claire simply abandoning her pet. Was her death murder?

Questions end when police arrest young kennel helper Eugene. The fragile friendship between Kate and police officer Luke Gianetti frays as she ignores his advice and keeps asking questions. House calls provide gossip and clues, some helpful, some not so much, as she treats her animal patients. Did Claire's recent insurance windfall prove too tempting for her hardworking and hard-drinking mother? What does trouble in the art gallery where Claire worked signal? How huge a grudge did heavy metal rocker A. J. hold against high school sweetheart Claire after she dumped him? Was Claire a threat to A. J.'s rich new girl?

Dr. Kate mixes real medicine with murder as she risks her life over Claire's death, aided by insights from a former fire investigator, aka her gramps. Unleashed is just as irresistible as Dr. Kate's first adventure, Muzzled.

Hallmark

Why hasn’t the Hallmark picked this up for their Movies and Mysteries channel? So clever with just a hint of romance. Love this series!

Entertaining but several inaccuracies

Fun entertaining read/listen. As an experienced dog person and triathlete the inaccuracies related to the Ironman/triathlon and various running events was annoying. In addition referring to the carine terrier as a yorkie was bothersome. I think the worse was the discussion on spaying, current science does not support early spay and the health benefits Of doing so is inaccurate.
Overall light and fluffy entertaining reading/listen.

Love the animals and their quirky owners!

"Unleashed" is the second book of Eileen Brady's Kate Turner DVM mystery series and the second audiobook of hers I have tried. I love the characters , Kate Turner, the vet , her staff, and all the pets and quirky pet owners. As cozy mysteries go, Kate Turner accidentally bumbling into a murder mystery while trying to perform her job was a great premise. The book is lighthearted and, at times , laugh out loud funny. Yet, it seems the story drags in places. The murder happens, and Kate is almost instantly caught up in it by the end of chapter one. But several chapters go by mostly full of witty vet calls and no real hint of whom might have been involved. Or even if Kate is curious and investigating! There are lots of wonderful facts about vet medicine and peculiarities of certain breeds of dogs. There is a Hallmark moment with Katie's gramps involving brunch and a trip to a New York art gallery that brought tears to my eyes but left me wondering why it was there. It takes over 40 chapters to solve a mystery, and the surprise ending left me flat. I really enjoyed her first book, Muzzled, and had high hopes for Unleashed. I was sadly disappointed. However, I love the characters so much, I doubt I will give up on the series just yet!

Caroline Shaffer's reading of "Unleashed" was magnificent. Her voice, accents, and variation in the speed she performs breathe life into the individual characters! It was like attending a live performance of readers theater! very well done.

I like the characters and setting of this book, even though I thought it went on way too long. Caroline Shaffer's excellent reading performance made a tedious mystery bearable.

Enjoyable Light Mystery

I enjoy light mysteries and the home visits of the veternarian and her assistant adds an enjoyable element to the book. The possible romantic interaction between Kate and Luke is a bit confusing. It’s like the author couldn’t make up her mind. The unraveling of the mystery to who the murderer was seemed a bit awkward for me. It didn’t flow right to me. I did enjoy the story, more so the vet cases than the mystery. But overall, it was enjoyable because of the various animal cases.
