Publisher's summary

Return to the breathtaking series that has earned over 15,000 five-star ratings.

Nick Hall is the ultimate operative, having brought tyrants, warlords, and terrorists to their knees. His unique brain implants allow him to wield the Internet with his mind and pry into the thoughts, secrets, and memories of the most despicable people alive.

After a near-fatal clash with Troy Browning, a cunning psychopath and one of only three mind readers on earth, Hall faces the most daunting threat of all. Because Browning has found an ally as ruthless as he is. A genetically-engineered titan whose physical and mental abilities dwarf those of ordinary men. Together, the pair plan to create an unbeatable army. Their target? Humanity itself, starting with Nick Hall and those he holds dear.

Hall is soon thrust into a relentless battle for the future, one that will test the limits of his ability. As the surprises mount and the stakes skyrocket, Hall is forced to confront a chilling reality. If he takes one wrong step, he won’t save humanity—he’ll hasten its extinction.

Based on actual research on neural implants and controlling the Internet with thoughts, the Nick Hall novels are pulse-pounding thrillers packed with deep insights, nonstop action, stunning revelations, and roller-coaster twists and turns.

"Richards is an extraordinary writer," (Dean Koontz) who can "keep you turning the pages all night long." (Douglas Preston)

"Richards is a worthy successor to Michael Crichton." (SF Book dot com)

plot line

too much "lecturing". Took me 2 weeks to get through when I usually finish a good book in 2 days

Thought provoking and entertaining!

Amazing author! His books are so much fun! Not sure if the best part is the action and adventure or the thought provoking scientific insights! Another gem and more evidence of Richards’ genius! Thanks for a great work!!!

Another one (khalad voice)

Dougie did it again, exiting, educational and unpredictable. Another great installment to the Nick Hall Saga, and Richards's Body of work.

Pushing the boundaries of “What IF”

The story was so good that it overshadowed the less than stellar narration. I love Richard’s books and typically the narration as well. This is the 2nd with this voice. Will continue to consume everything from this author.

Perhaps it was just too “out there” for me

This is the first of Richards’ books that I’ve not been captivated by. One of the things that makes his stories so compelling is that there’s a believability and relatability with concepts and characters, even as they push the boundaries; for me, the section after the story ends is necessary to separate fact from fiction. I feel like I’ve ‘lived’ his other stories as they’ve been told—felt the excitement, the wonderment, the fear. This time…not so much. Found myself not really paying as close attention as I normally do. Can’t explain further without risking saying too much that could spoil others’ enjoyment.

How Did He Do That?

I ‘ve kept up with the Nick. Hall saga thinking that the fourth book would make me tire of the characters but not so. This book has new fresh ideas that take the reader by surprise. You have to read it. Go Nick.

Slow moving, wordy and repetitive. Horrible narration.

The overly dramatic narration was very distracting, and while I really enjoyed the first three Nick Hall stories, this one was slow-moving and very repetitive. Then it got preachy and dove down the “intelligent design” rabbit hole. At that point it was just silly.

Sad. Will definitely think twice when another book comes out (and will avoid this narrator for sure).

oh no...I have waited so long for this book and...

its a really slow start and I am not enjoying the voice actor at all. I hope it gets better...only on chapter 9 but so far its a struggle to listen to. Trust me, I am a huge fan of Douglas E Richards and literally checked everyday to see when this would be available on Audible.
Out of fairness to the review process and the Author, I will update this review a little further into the book, but so far......not so good.
