Story
For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

Story
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

The Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. Max Brooks, driven by the urgency of preserving the acid-etched first-hand experiences of the survivors from those apocalyptic years, traveled across the United States of America and throughout the world, from decimated cities that once teemed with upwards of 30 million souls, to the most remote and inhospitable areas of the planet.

Story
Some of the parchment pages were the color of cream, thick and substantial, made to last many, many lifetimes. Other pages were thin and desiccated, positively yellow from age, and crackled alarmingly as Van Richten turned them over. There were no ornate illuminations, no fussy borders, only lines of plain text in hard black ink. The flowing handwriting was a bit difficult to follow at first; the writer's style of calligraphy had not been in common use for 300 years. No table of contents, but from the dates it looked to be some kind of history.

Though classified as having no magic, Neve March can hear the whispers of the wind and sometimes even control it. But it's a secret she must hold close if she wishes to continue as Nightwatch - the soldiers who guard Winterborne against those who roam the wastelands and feast on human flesh. When Neve investigates a faint SOS signal, she not only unearths a woman close to death, but a plot involving an ancient enemy long thought dead.

Who was your favorite character and why?
I couldn't say that I favored one character over another. They were all important to how this story flowed.Have you listened to any of Penny Scott-Andrews’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not listened to Ms. Scott-Andrews but after having her read to me here that will change. She added to my enjoyment of this book and I can't wait to listen to it again. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I would love to be able to listen to the book in one sitting but at least this time around it just wasn't possible. As I was getting toward the end, it had me think about what people used to do before television was around. As a family they would sit around the radio to listen to their favorite programs. Now we have Alexa. I can picture myself asking "Alexa" to play "Undead Quiet" and not moving until the program was over.Any additional comments?
This is a story that has you thinking about how it would fit into the past. It has me thinking of the GSN program "Steampunk'd" - sadly it only lasted one season. I could picture the contestants designing all the sets and costumes in order to bring Ms. Pavesic's work to life. It's a story that has fantasy, mystery and possibly our future - it shows that nothing is off limits. I thought this author to be very creative especially when you think of how much had to be put into creating the world she's giving us a glimpse into.My disappointment came at the end which left me saying "no, No, NO!" I'm hoping that there will be a follow up to this story so I know what's going to happen - you can't just leave me hanging. Also have to hope that the book is followed up with the audio version and that Ms. Scott-Andrews will continue as the narrator.
I voluntarily reviewed an Audiobook copy of this book.

Great Start to a Series, Very Enjoyable!
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
The story line, the mixing of the Fae (Seelie Court), Steam punk and undead, and Goddeses had my head swimming. It's an excellent first book of a series and I can't wait to see where it goes. I don't feel like the author telegraphed the next few books and I'm grateful for that. I think the book was shorter but that works fine in a series. It's not a stand alone book so be prepared to follow this story for a couple of more books at least.
The narration is EXCELLENT. I'm thinking of adding this narrator to my list.
I was given a copy of this audible book in lieu of an honest review.

Weird But Fun
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
I absoultly loved this book. The author had me hooked from the beginning and I couldn't stop listening to it until the very end. They had me intrigued and surprised me as I kept listening. I kept thinking I knew where this is going but something would happen to change things.
I have never come across a book that is a mix between steampunk and elves. I think this is one of reason I really liked it becuase it is new and different. The author puts his own twist on Elves and the world that they and humans live in.
I really liked how he used pollution due to human to separate the humans from the elves.
This book is violent (just at the beginning) but has no profanity or sexual content.
I would highly recommend it.
Unfortunately there is no book two out yet.

Steampunk and Zombies
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
Humans are destroying the planet, elves are dying so something must be done. Using Fae magic they create domes over the cities, invisible to humans. Downside is this means the pollution is more concentrated in the cities and many die. This story has religion, and plots, greed, and secrets that must be kept at all costs... something is roaming the areas and slaughtering many people... The church has to act before they lose all credibility.... also viewpoints change as you go, seeing the world in a few different eyes...
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audio book by the author, narrator, or publisher, and it's my honest opinion because I read reviews as well and wanna know if a book is worth my time...
