About this listen
The Girl with All the Gifts: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!*
Booktrack editions are essentially a new genre of digital storytelling entertainment. Music and ambient audio are added to complement and enhance the audiobook experience. It is a synchronized movie-style soundtrack that complements the narration of existing audiobooks; the tempo and rhythm of the score harmonize with action, dialogue and the characters' emotional arcs.
The USA Today best seller
Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her "our little genius".
Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh.
The Girl with All the Gifts is a groundbreaking thriller, emotionally charged and gripping from beginning to end.
*Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Story
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

The sun is bloated, diseased, dying perhaps. Beneath its baneful light, Shadrapar, last of all cities, harbours fewer than 100,000 human souls. Built on the ruins of countless civilisations, Shadrapar is a museum, a midden, an asylum, a prison on a world that is ever more alien to humanity. Bearing witness to the desperate struggle for existence between life old and new is Stefan Advani: rebel, outlaw, prisoner, survivor.

It was Vera’s idea to buy the Itza. The “world’s most advanced smart speaker!” didn’t interest Thiago, but Vera thought it would be a bit of fun for them amidst all the strange occurrences happening in the condo. It made things worse. Then, there was the eerie music at odd hours, Thiago waking up to Itza projecting light shows in an empty room.

The soundtrack made me feel the book more.
I like the fact that the soundtrack made me feel the book more than just listening to the narrator. I think the ambient music really goes well with this book as well. Of course, first and foremost, the narration was already excellent in the first place. And together with the soundtrack, this book was a perfect listen.

A fantastic story
Through the twists and turns and all the way to the book's natural ending, I was held in, eager for my next fix. It's a story of people who have adapted to a world they cannot connect to its past. It's a story of humanity at its worst and best. Fascinating read. Highly recommend.

Too much background noise
I prefer audiobooks where the words speak for themselves. The background noise was distracting to the story and I believe I would have enjoyed it much more without it

A great suggestion for the scientist in your life
This is a pretty simple read for the most part and the story line is always moving forward or reflecting deeply on what just happened. I love the background music and the reader in this audio version.

Entertaining take on the zombie theme
Interesting and entertaining read! A new take on a somewhat worn out topic. Only complaint is that several of the characters seemed to toggle between being incredibly astute, intelligent, and logical, to being irrational, illogical, and driven by emotional whims. I often felt frustrated by suddenly uncharacteristic mood swings among some of the main characters that seemed unrealistic and made it hard for me to sympathize with their choices. Would have preferred a more consistent and gradual character development as opposed to characters that seemed to swing like a pendulum. But still a fun read - great for a beach week! (Side note : I also really found the theatrical sound affects and music a bit cheesy and contrived, if that is distracting to you don’t get the audiobook!)

Fantastic twist on zombie theme!
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book on Audible. It was suspenseful and had twists and turns that I didn’t anticipate. The “Hungry” characters were interesting and creative. I couldn’t stop listening!
I will have to say, however, that I did not appreciate the music and sound effects. I found it to be distracting and annoying.
Nevertheless, I would highly recommend this book and the sequel, The Boy On The Bridge, which was even better than this one.

A different take on the zombie apocalypse. The narrator was phenomenal, I highly recommend this book!!
