About this listen

Elaina McCord's dream of being an FBI profiler is threatened by her very first case-investigating a string of murders near a Texas beach resort. The victims, all young women, were drugged and brutally murdered, their bodies abandoned in desolate marshland. Elaina's hunch - met with disbelief by local police - is that these are only the latest offerings from a serial killer who has been perfecting his art for years, growing bolder and more cunning with each strike.

True-crime writer Troy Stockton has a reputation as an irresistible playboy who gets his story at any cost. He's the last person Elaina should trust, let alone be attracted to. But right now Troy, along with the elite team of forensics experts known as the Tracers, is her only ally in a case that's turning dangerously personal. A killer is reaching out to Elaina, taunting her, letting her know how ruthless he is and how close he's getting. Now it's not just her career that's in jeopardy - it's her life...

Loved the book, the story, the characters! I just had a problem with the narrator. She has a very unusual pronunciation pattern....? It sounded like she a mouth full of ice. Especially when a word ended and started with the same letter. I HATED giving bad reviews! I just thought it was an interesting choice for a narrator.
Loved the book!

I hate giving bad reviews....

Narrator seems to slur her words . I believe she tries so hard to pronounce each word perfectly and entirely , which is not how anyone actually speaks, she sounds like she has mush in her mouth!

Overall good story

Narrator is awful. Sounds like she’s speaking with a wired jaw. Don’t know if the story is good because I can’t get past the narrator.

Couldn’t listen after the first chapter

When I finished the first book in this series, I immediately went on to this one. The story is great, the characters are interesting -no wimpy woman waiting for a man to save her- however the narrator is HORRIBLE. The worst I've ever heard and I get through at least 10 audiobooks a month.
Her mild lisp isn't very noticeable, but the way she pronounces words incorrectly over and over is grating. For example, the killer uses ketamine to subdue victims - don't worry it's not a spoiler, just some plot- and the narrator pronounces it "keet-omine" like parakeet... she must have said it a hundred times and it gets more annoying each time. Keet keet keet. Still a great book but if I see this narrator listed again I'll pass.

Glad I love this series

Honestly I don't believe a live person narrated the book. I believe it is one of the computer programs doing the narration. It was so distracting and many of the words that ended in ed had a second ed added. Even words like against had an ed added at times. Evidently no one listened to the finished product or they would never have approved it for Audible. Many people have made the same comments so obviously someone at Audible should have pulled the narration by now. I truly don't get it. I can't even tell you how many Audible books I have listened to and I have never heard anything like it. It is very distracting!! The mistakes started within the first few sentences...ex. He pusheded the boat into the water. There are hundreds of mistakes plus at times, the narration sounds like someone who had too much alcohol. I believe this book was "read" by a really bad computer program.

HORRIBLE Narration!

I hate to leave negative reviews, but the narrator has the weirdest speech impediment. It happened so many times & makes me cringe. It’s something with her D’s. She adds an extra syllable. I know this sounds weird, but it started to grate on me. If it wasn’t the thick southern drawl she portrays, I’d think she could be italian (don’t get me wrong, I love an Italian accent, but this was annoying). Also, hate how she pronounced Ketamine. Sorry, but that’s what sticks out in this book & that makes me a little disappointed as I like the story line & the Texas setting.

Argh, the narrator!

When the book first started, the narrator kind of put me to sleep. I got used to that and the lack of any voice change for the characters.
But what almost made me give up on a good story was the narrator’s strange pronunciation of most past tense words, and some that ended with “t”. Such as passed becoming
Passed ded or replaced becoming replace ted.
It was very distracting and, for me, took a lot away from the story. If you can overlook that, it’s definitely a good read.

Where was the editor/producer?

The story was good but I had difficulty staying focused because of the performers voice. This is one that might be better read not listened too

What made the experience of listening to Unspeakable the most enjoyable?

I liked the pace of the story and the mix of crime and romance story lines.

What aspect of Talmadge Ragan’s performance would you have changed?

Several of the scientific terms were pronounced incorrectly throughout the book. The narrator should have consulted with a scientist to learn the proper pronunciation of words such as "deoxyribonucleic acid" and "polymerase".

I love Laura Griffins books. I've read this before but this is the first time I listened to it in Audio from. The narrator was good but she seemed to always add "ed" to words. Like workeded or turneded. It was a little annoying at first but just got use to it.
