About this listen

A grief memoir like no other grief memoir.

Beloved sci-fi narrator Luke Daniels feels a little exposed right now. Up until now, words have never been in short supply. However, by and large, this unending tide of words has been someone else's. In real life he's an introvert who seriously doesn't even talk much, preferring to observe and mimic. That's his comfort zone. But Luke's own personal story? That's his danger zone. And frankly, he's terrified.

But this story deserves to be told as much as it needs to be heard. So here we go.

In 2016, the morning after Valentine's Day, Luke's son passed away from breathing issues complicated by congenital birth defects. He was 21 months old. And his name was Finnegan.

This kind of loss is terrifyingly huge and scary, but the love and light in this story far outweigh the tragedy. Through comic-book metaphors, Shakespeare references, and lilting Irish brogues, Luke tells the story of his too-short time with Finn. This is his tribute to storytelling, parenthood, and his rosy-cheeked, blue-eyed baby boy.

Featured Article: Comforting Audiobooks About Grief and Loss That Actually Help

When it comes to the death of a loved one, there is no easy path forward. Grieving can place significant mental strain on those who are mourning. And because everyone grieves a little differently, it can be hard to know where to turn for help, or what to say to someone who is in the throes of grief. Audiobooks on grief can offer insight to those looking for ways to support the mourning, or a bit of comfort for anyone struggling with loss themselves.

Great book. Have some Kleenex handy

I have always loved Luke Daniels. This book has make me love him more. My sister has severe disabilities. It took my parents 2 years to finally get her diagnosis. This book is so real. I could hear his pain. Thank you Luke for sharing Finnegan with us.

No Words

Unlike the author, I have no words to convey how this audiobook touched my heart. I am a member of "the club" of those who have lost loved ones, both young and old. Luke tells Finn's story in a way that is a balm to all who read it.

A story of love and loss

I haven’t listened to such a deeply connectable story in so very long. This story shows the unbearable journeys that special needs parenting takes one. Through the blessing of birth, complications, love and loss, we are along for the journey. The author reads clearly and gives adequate “before” and “after” Finn-terludes throughout the book.
Amazing work. Your baby would be proud.

I can relate.

There are no normal parents. There is no normal grievance. My unspoken loss was being told by Mr. Daniel. And of course, his brilliant talents to speak what is in his mind the way his many characters in books he narrates would speak.

Luke is a master narrator/storyteller and I love all of his work. Listening to him share his raw and heartbreaking story was so moving and riveting... I didn’t think that I could love his work any more than I already did, but I do!! Thank you Luke for your bravery and baring your soul and sharing your story with us.
