Publisher's summary

From the author of Dead Flowers on Wednesday and The Gold Box

Chris Falco is an ex-con who wants a new life. He thinks he's found it when he reconnects with his college sweetheart, Azalea, and moves to the city to be with her. She’s beautiful and glamorous, and the romance heats up quickly, but just as fast, Azalea starts acting strange. She sees things that aren't there, and talks to people who aren't there, like the man in the grey suit.

Early in their relationship, after a night of debauchery and fulfilled sexual fantasies, Chris and Azalea elope. He thinks he's married the girl of his dreams, and that his troubles are over. But soon after, he realizes that not only is she schizophrenic, she's also broke, and she realizes that Chris has problems, too.

He needs to get a job to support the two of them, and he falls in with the mafia. This solves the immediate financial problems, but begins Chris' downward spiral into crime, violence, and drugs. Nothing is as it seems in Chris’ new life, and when his demons come out of the closet, the man in the grey suit tells Azalea a little too much. Either something beyond his power of conception is going on, or he is going crazy, too.

Enthralling!

What a totally sadistic and wildly twisted narrative! The whole experience was fascinating. The characters are beautifully developed, strange, and often disturbing. As I listened, I enjoyed arranging the clues and trying to puzzle together the mysteries of the different character plots and perceptions.

The author’s passion for the story is rich and comes out naturally through his voice as a gifted story teller. (Sound quality ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) Apparently some of this story actually happened to the author too! Definitely add Until They Bury Me to your reading list.

Paul, an underrated talent

This is just an awesome read! Don’t know what the equivalent of a „pageturner“ for an audiobook is (being a German guy), but I almost listened to this exciting story in just one step with only a few little breaks. What appears to be a love story in the beginning quickly turns into a mixture of a crime-story, psychological thriller and a mystery plot. A great puzzle which slowly resolves with smart and surprising turns and with very interesting and well developed characters. It also contains a good portion of humour (not sure if intended by the author, but the dialogues between Chris and Azalea about „men in grey suits“ or „crows“ which aren’t really there (or maybe they are?!) are just so weird that they made me laugh sometimes). I came across the author because I am a sailor and I am supporting him and his sailor interview podcast since a while via patreon. Therefore I am happy to got free access to this audiobook. To be honest, I did not really expect him to be such a great and talented novel writer. Paul Trammel definitely deserves much more attention. In my opinion this novel definitely has the same potential to become a Hollywood blockbuster as Andy Weirds „The martian“ for example, another author who was underrated for a long time until he released it on Amazon. I hope one day I will have the chance to ask Paul about where his inspiration exactly came from for this little masterpiece...

Unexpected ending, suspenseful!

I was caught by surprise here! Full disclosure, Paul is my cousin, so I thought I knew where he was going. I was wrong. It's completely different from his other books and really well done. Great story telling and pivots between chapters. plus, gotta say, the sex scenes aren't lacking. The suspense is what kept me listening in any break I had, though. I recommend it to anyone who likes his suspense!!!
