About this listen

This time murder has hit close to home....

1674, Leiden, the Netherlands

After successfully solving the case of the missing girls in Delft, Master Mercurius has made a name for himself as a private investigator. With unrest occurring both nationally and internationally, William of Orange is obsessed by plots against his leadership. He calls on Mercurius to help to spy on state officials. But before Mercurius has a chance to investigate, his colleague at the University of Leiden is killed. And when one of William's men is also murdered, Mercurius suspects there could be a serial killer on the loose....

Are the two deaths connected? Is there a plot against the Dutch ruler? And can Mercurius successfully solve another murder case?

The main theme is apprehension of a venture that is out of character for moral philosopher. He travels on knowing he is in danger but forgets the danger when his heart is broken. Another life experience that is out of character.

Great apprehension

This series is quickly becoming my favorite—good characters, interesting stories, and enough humor to laugh out loud. Great book!

Entertaining and enjoyable

I really enjoyed the first book of the series, but this one was even better. Character development was great. Never a dull moment. Intelligently written and great narrator performance. I highly recommend it.

Better than the first

Really enjoying this series. The narrator is brilliant and the humorous asides and conversational tone make it most enjoyable and refreshingly different than the usual medieval mysteries.
Audible please record more!

I got the first book from my library but will get the rest of this series on Audible because these are books I want to own and could easily listen to several times. The main character is very interesting, the writing both witty and smart and the narrator-outstanding. It helps if you like history and a main character with a wide -reaching vocabulary. This is the most Interesting and different historical mystery series I have read or listened to in several years .Well done!

Love this series!

It was okay, I didn’t find it nearly as compelling as the first book but I plan to continue with the series.
