When Lady Margaret Blake and her sister lose their parents in a boating accident, they are left to the guardianship of their uncle. Disregarding their feelings for the price their beauty will fetch on the Marriage Mart, he arranges a match for both. Lady Margaret, however, has her own views on the matter and takes her fate into her own hands.
Returning home after war to assume his responsibilities, Luke, Duke of Waverley, expects a nice, quiet life on his country estate. Within hours of stepping foot in England, though, he stumbles upon a young woman being attacked, and no sooner does he rescue her than she runs away. His sense of curiosity is piqued and his sense of honor compels him to help her, leading him on a merry chase . . . Meg escapes the marriage, only to find herself at the mercy of others. Fortunately, in the soldier she cannot avoid, she also finds herself in very capable hands. Only her uncle has a deeper reason for his actions and will stop at nothing to see his plans fulfilled.

I love the narrator! Alex does a great job and I feel has the best voice for male characters. He’s a favorite of mine.
This series is worth reading or listening to.

1. Heroine spent waaaayyy too much time after the initial couple of grateful times creating self-focused drama by trying to run away all the time from the people helping her sorry desperate poor powerless self - and using her sister as her excuse. It became tiresome, illogical, & at times even I wanted to slap her face to shut up her thinking or speaking more. It made her seem unstable, not humble or honorable towards those helping her. And it wasted other characters' dialogues continually talking her down, dialogue that could've brought in more realistic & believably inspiring romantic interactions between the H/H.
2. Eliminating about three or four chapters after the 14th chapter would have kept it moving better (possibly by removing some of what is mentioned above). Honestly, the clues & actions & interactions just went so slowly after the first half that it tempted this reader to not even stay interested in the story, which in the end, was great. More action to move it forward after the second half would have been nice for me. The narrator *might* have drummed up some more inflection to make it seem more interesting, but that's not on him. He was good otherwise.
All of that being said...the writing was tight, the characters consistent, the descriptions transporting, & the plot (plot twists) engaging.
Clean Story, Good Characters
