About this listen

In 1974, a twenty-year-old Christie Brinkley was “discovered” outside a Paris phone booth, which set off a meteoric modeling career that would land her on the covers of hundreds of magazines and cement her legacy as an All-American icon. Although she’s lived more than fifty years in the public eye, the full story of her roller-coaster life has never been told.

Now, for the first time, Christie shares what life has been like, both in front of and behind the cameras, considering the girl she was alongside the woman she has become. Her stories are as heartening as they are eye-opening, as she recounts her most formative chapters, including the betrayal she experienced by her biological father as a child, her lifelong passion for art, her whirlwind career, her four tumultuous marriages—including her heartbreaking divorce from Billy Joel—and the harrowing experiences that almost cut her life short.

Through it all, Christie’s unwavering belief in the magic and mystery of life has been her guiding light, even during her darkest times. It is with this grace and gratitude that she tenderly chronicles the unexpected, unexplainable ways her life has unfolded, embracing every adventure and twist of fate along the way: traveling the world as a supermodel at the height of the model wars, living life on the road with her rock-star husband and their baby, starring in blockbuster movies and hit sitcoms, riding horses with cowboys, training with world-champion boxers, and even stepping into the spotlight on Broadway.

A bighearted, beautifully crafted memoir of resilience and self-discovery, Uptown Girl is the brave account of a life lived at full throttle and on full display.

Lukewarm

Huge autobiography fan and have followed Christie her entire life so I enjoy the story. Typically I prefer an autobiography read by the author but not this one. The over performance nearly made this a DNF for me. The whispery voice, over inflection is too much. Just read, don’t act.

Christie is a wonderful storyteller & has had fabulous journey through life!

I love her charming yet down to earth character & Christie Brinkley is an incredibly talented storyteller that I find profoundly captivating, interesting, engaging & lots of fun !

I grew up in the 1980s seeing Christie Brinkley always as a very successful, yet always gracious and approachable model, but learning who she really is as a person is incredibly uplifting and inspiring…I am truly savoring her each chapter of her exciting audiobook and I don’t want it to end ~ What a class act and fine person ! Bravo Christie !!

Empowering Passionate Romanticizing Beauty

The empowering girl with the big smile. Listening to the girl whom I have always admired and caught many glimpses of as a young teen. Living close by and watching her in Lloyd harbor, I would dream of what it would be like to be that beautiful and that successful, never knowing her true reality. Now hearing her tell her stories I just want to thank her for let us in. To thank her for being so genuine and honest, when she didn’t have to. Bravo to her for not letting all life through at her steal her smile and her true inner beauty!
I had the honor of being at a charity event in Aspen this past February, where I got to personally meet you and your beautiful children Jack and Sailor. I was star stuck and nervous and nonetheless you were sweet, kind and gracious! This was a wonderful listen!

Lacks depth

I liked the book, but it black depth, and just glosses over things.
If you’ve been married four times, it’s time to look within. I love Christie but she takes no accountability for her choices with men.

She's Good at Everything, Except Picking Husband

I wish I could have warned Christy not to grab the first guy when she's on the rebound. I always followed the six month rule when deciding to move forward on a relationship. Other than picking losers as husbands, Christy has had a great life. She ignored the red flags, but I've ignored red flags also. I've been following her amazing career since the 1970s, and we're close to the same age. Loved that she developed her passions for art, horses, flowers, Broadway, etc. Her voice is lovely and I thought it was worth my time to listen to the audible book. Now I'm trying to find the accompanying PDF, but i can't find it. Wish she had mentioned John Mellencamp and talked about her plastic surgery. And I love Club Med...I know if you're on a photoshoot for Sports Illustrated, you can poo poo Club Med...I can't believe her editors didn't remove that slur about Club Med.

Hard to put down...

Fate and timing seemed to steer Christie's ship in good and not so good ways. Looking for love to replace her biological father's abuse as a child. Fate gave her a wonderful, new father.

At 30 she lived several lifetimes already.
Excellent storytelling, made me laugh out loud and tear up throughout.

Hope love is still out there for you, but your family, friends and your "Tara" ( tower hill) might just be enough. You seem to be your happiest now!

Sugary delivery

As a woman, i sympathize with her relationship struggles, especially with Billy; I understand the sorrow and struggle of being married to an alcoholic. Somehow the way she reads and delivers the words are just too “chipper”(?). I kept thinking, despite the traumas she experienced and poor choices in men (Peter and Ricky), she has had an amazingly charmed life with all the travel, interesting people, and opportunities that seemingly fell into her lap. Sounds like a fairytale, being “discovered” by a photographer in Paris. I would have been thrilled to just have opportunity to live in Paris, but her life and everything she’s been through seems very blessed, despite the heartaches along the way. Not particularly deep or intelligent reading, but a story of a pretty fortunate life.

How passionate she is and was about small details of places she has been and people she has met

She admits flaws and appreciates the things that have happened to her by circumstance. Very humble and detailed accounting of her fun days as a model in Paris

Fantastic Book

I enjoyed this book very much. I can visualize many of the locations that are spoken about, feeling the helicopter crash as well as loving someone who doesn’t love themselves or you. Good Work!

Great book - beware no PDF currently

I’m currently enjoying the book and the stories. So many joys, graphically and deliciously described..as well as some tragedies told in a level of detail I’ve never heard before. She is such an optimist and you can hear it in her story telling. I’m glad she’s in a great place with a great attitude at this time of her life.
