About this listen

An heiress and an outcast—a match made for scandal . . .

With her brother, the Duke of Everely, married off to the beautiful and charming Aphrodite Du Bell, Verity Eagleman feels more alone than ever within the cold halls of the family estate. So when she’s invited to stay in the Du Bells’ clamorous, boisterous home, she leaps at the chance.

When Verity crosses paths with Theodore Darrington, the doctor who saved her brother’s life, she can’t help but notice how her heart flutters anytime he is near. But as the estranged bastard son of the Marquess of Whitmear, Theodore is forbidden to pursue anyone of the noble set. Despite being popular among the ton for both his heroic efforts and handsome charm, Theodore knows that no amount of social capital will allow him to be with the woman he secretly loves. Luckily for him, Verity has never cared much for the rules of society.

A forbidden romance blossoms as Verity and Theodore give in to their all-consuming passion, with any thought of scandal flung to the side. But when the concerns of their friends and family begin to loom over their love, will they truly be able to break the rules?

I loved it

I really enjoyed things from Verity side! I loved her and the Dr relationship. I also loved her with the Du Bells! Now we need a story with Hathor and Henry because those two need to end up together please!!

Love love love

I might've have loved this book more than the first!! Verity was so innocent at times but her trauma made her mature for her age and relateable in the sense that she her lot in life was to be someone's wife. It was incredibly refreshing and it made her so likeable. I was obsessed with Theodore - his demeanor, his patience, his drive, EVERYTHING! His situation was such crap but even though it all his sense of self never changed. Just a genuinely good man. I loved that this book was about him because we only really saw his professional side in Book 1.

As far as the Narrators go - Grace Gray's talent is unmatched. Her ability to create distinct voices for each character throughout the entire story with such skill should be celebrated. If I had a book that needed narrated, I would want her to narrator my story hands down.

I feel the same about Abe Jarman. I'm not sure if he made Theodore's character so unforgettable or if Abe Jarman brought Theodore's character to life but they were a match made in heaven. And when Theodore lost his mind or lust for Verity overcame him? Ooeeee fan a sista off!!!

The performances were brilliant and I can't wait for Grace Gray and Abe Jarman to narrate Hathor and this new Prince's story.

Eeeekkkkkk!!

Love love love ❤️

Love love

Enjoyed following characters that I fell in love with during book 1…and once again, I got to see myself in literature set in a period of time in history where Black people are not depicted. Very cool indeed!

Overall enjoyable

I really enjoyed the story, the people that narrated the story, and how everything played out in the end. I do wish that there was a little more resolution between Theodore and his family. But I do enjoy everything else that came with it. I love the mystery and How the two stories overlapped, and how they fought for their love to the end. Definitely can’t wait to read another book by her hopefully we get one on Hava by which I think would be hilarious.

It Gave What I Came for and MORE 😍

I loved the first book of this series… I love this one EVEN MORE. McAvoy is such a gifted story teller and is an expert at character development. The continuation of these characters stories is so enthralling and I cannot wait for the next one! The storyline of the doctor and his maternal and paternal families and is very relatable and I want to hear more about them. This is a storyline that could easily have another book all on its own!

I slow burn and interaction between the main characters is amazing. The story arch is on point. I am so deeply involved with these books I have screamed and thrown my phone several times

Why can’t we give more than 5 stars.

I loved loved loved the book. It takes time for me to get into a book and often DNF after 2-3 chapters but this book had me in a chokehold. It was anticipated and it definitely reached my expectations. Verity and the Dr. were flawed lovable characters and so cute together. Well written, well paced and a generally enjoyable listen.
