About this listen

As the fifth book in The New Homefront Series, Viking One serves as a stand-alone novel, chronicling the apparently orchestrated collapse of our fragile, modern world from the perspective of Jim and Lori Rutherford and friends, as their small town of Delaware City, Delaware begins to feel the noose tighten around them.

As a preparedness-minded individual, Jim and crew, working together with friends, neighbors, and local authorities, try to secure their beloved town while keeping their minds open to the possibility of fleeing if the extent of the collapse is as great as they fear.

Join them, along with characters from The Last Layover, as they struggle to maintain the security of their town while hanging on to every last thread of hope and humanity.

Good ,Exciting ,Series.

Where does Viking One rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It 's at the top of all the audiobooks I have listened to.I have enjoyed all of the books in this series and can't wait for the next the next one.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Viking One?
The thing I like is the way Bird explains why things have happened. It is like reading the headlines of what is happening in our government today.

What about Patrick Freeman’s performance did you like?
Freeman's performance makes the characters come to life with the voices he gives them.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes and no.I hate for a good book to end so I try and stretch them out as long as possible. But at times I will sit in the garage, (I listen while driving) waiting for an exciting part to end.

Any additional comments?
Bird brings real world events into his books and helps me understand what the consequences of the choices our government makes and the effects of those choices have on my everyday life.I also feel he presents great ideas on how to survive the disasters brought about by those choices.

Tale of preparedness and survival w/great closure.

This is a stand-alone novel in the New Homefront series. It’s more or less a prequel that documents the state of the country and in a more local sense the situation in the small town of Delaware City, Delaware prior to the collapse. If you read or listened to the first four books you will recognize some of the characters and situations. This is a good if seriously right-wing tale of preparedness and survival in our country’s current social and political climate. Wonderful characters, great story, excellent closure. Patrick Freeman continues to do an excellent job of narration.

Interesting story

Good story. Interesting take from the water. Worth the read. I like the political stance of the characters, especially the one from Cuba.

What happened

I enjoyed the previous books. This one lost me. Dry dull faux rushed action. I also liked the narrator previously, but I only made it a few hours into this one before I moved on. I’ll try you again later Mr Bird. Meh
