Intriguing story - but poor narration

After the first seven books in the series I am invested on how things turn out or Jess and the other characters. With audio books, the narration is a major factor. Do the words you hear evoke images of the characters and places of events or are you simply listing to words that fall flat of conveying life?
We are all different and I am sure the narration style I prefer may not be so for another, and visa versa. But in my opinion the switch from Carol Schneider to Joan Dukore was a huge mistake. Were it not for the driving interest to know how things turn out, I would have returned this book. As it is, I have kicked the playback speed up to 1.5 just so I can be done with it - better to listen to Joan as an amped chipmunk than otherwise. And sadly she appears to be the narrator of the remaining books in the series.... Sigh

Narrator is awful!!!

I listen to a lot of audiobooks and this lady by far is the absolute worst narrator I’ve ever had the misfortune of listening to. The first one in series was pretty bad… (who mispronounces clique???) but this woman makes my ears hurt.

Im not sure I can finish this book in Audio

Loved all the stories in this series so far. Listened to them back to back on audio. Reviewers complained about the narrators fake southern drawl but I believe her voice matched the tone of the story and characters…. This new narrator has me not wanting to finish listening.
To all the authors- when you pick a narrator for 6 books just stay with it.

On the positive- so far the storyline up to this book and from the beginning of Vile, love the series. Love how it’s written and extends into the next book.
Enjoy this set of characters

Great Plot

Jess is a strong, capable woman and fiercely protective of those she loves. Will sacrifice herself if need to stop the killer..the killer will use any means to get her, even thru her family. The author has given us another great story with this eighth book. Joan Dukore narration added to the tense plot

Wish they kept the same narrator!

I really liked this series, until this book. The narrator was difficult to listen to and I wish I could get my credit back.

This just keeps getting better

The suspense is killing me!!! Things are heating up, literally...Dan’s being set up for the murder of missing Deputy Chief Allen...his house is burned down just before a police search. Jess is looking into her father’s background. Her PI friend, Corlew, is insinuating that the BPD is dirty. Wow! So much going on...and this is the last book in audio. Guess I’ll have to read the next.

Did not like the change in narrator

The previous narrator nailed all the characters' voices and emphasized the sentences correctly and pronounced words correctly. The new narrator is awful.

Vile

Vile is another good installment in the "Face of Evil" series.

I appreciate books that revolve around kick-ass female characters . Jess is strong, smart, capable. She tackles every situation head on and does everything in her powers to protect the people she loves.

The road to happiness and contentment is never easy, but even more so for Jess & Dan. She keeps fighting the good fight.

Evil has a name, but even knowing the enemy, Jess needs to work hard at solving the current mystery.

I enjoy a good series that keeps challenging the heroine. Jess is constantly on her toes and due to the narrator, so are you, as a listener.

Debra Webb does a good job of keeping the pace of the current book, making it easy to get familiar with the world she built and enjoy the action and suspense.

Joan Dukore's narration matches the "tone"of the book, its moody, intense and keeps you entertained.

Suspense, chasing a serial killer bent on taking her. Who will catch who?

Thank you Debra Webb and Audible for allowing me to hear this book Vile. Perfect name for it. A serial killer with the help of twisted followers is after Chief Jess. She and her team must find him first before he takes her for his own twisted reasons. He will do anything to her family to get to her.

Worst Narration Ever

Usually I check to see if the narrator changes over the course of a series and will do a preview listen if it does. In this case, I blindly ordered the next book in the series. What a mistake! The prior narrator wasn’t great by any means. Accents were unrealistic and drawn out in a terrible attempt to sound southern, but at least the narrator had enough voice differentiation that each character had a recognizable sound. Not this one! The voice is high pitch and whiny. I can’t tell the men’s voices from the women’s character voices which makes the story so much harder for me to follow. I will not be finishing this series with this narrator. Not worth the pain.
