About this listen

No matter what you see, no matter what you’ve heard, assume nothing.

Adam and Sophie Warner and their three-year-old daughter are vacationing in Washington State’s Hood Canal for Memorial Day weekend. It’s the perfect getaway to unplug—and to calm an uneasy marriage. But on Adam’s first day out on the water, he sees Sophie abducted by a stranger. A hundred yards from shore, Adam can’t save her. And Sophie disappears.

In a nearby cabin is another couple, Kristen and Connor Moss. Unfortunately, beyond what they’ve heard in the news, they’re in the dark when it comes to Sophie’s disappearance. For Adam, at least there’s comfort in knowing that Mason County detective Lee Husemann is an old friend of his. She’ll do everything she can to help. She must.

But as Adam’s paranoia about his missing wife escalates, Lee puts together the pieces of a puzzle. The lives of the two couples are converging in unpredictable ways, and the picture is unsettling. Lee suspects that not everyone is telling the truth about what they know—or they have yet to reveal all the lies they’ve hidden from the strangers they married.

Thank you Kiindle Unlimited

Great book ,free along with audio on Kindle Unlimited. So much better than books I've waisted a credit on or my money.Very interesting plot with great characters. Better than Gone Girl, and much better than The girl on a train. Never understood what was good about the later. The narration is Ok not great but still worth 5 .Stars.

I really wanted to like it, but two big blunders:

Having said that, suspenseful thrillers are my genre. I agree with another review (by Robin), not one likable character (out of a handful); not even close. Another thing that irritated me to no end was one of the male narrators. Much of his reading sounded robotic, as if each word was the last of a sentence; I can't believe that this style of reading got into any audiobook.

Too Busy

I struggled with this. I think from a point of logic, little made sense. I like the concept. I just had a hard time digesting it, seems too unrealistic.

I'm a little confused

I was a little disappointed that I guessed the murderer so quickly. But it was a good story. What I couldn't understand was Adam. His stories seemed to always be a contradiction. One second he admitted to an affair. Other times he’d said he didn't have an affair. And did he really believe he had nothing to do with his wife’s murder? Did he lie so much that he didn't know the difference between the truth and a lie?

A Bit Predictable

The readers’ performances are decent, but the story became rather predictable halfway through the book.

Lying.....

A twisted tail of revenge that would ultimately destroy lives. This books you think about how far we as humans could go to get what we think we want.

Good, solid, easily solved story

I enjoy twists and turns in a mystery/thriller and the author tried very hard to give that. However, I found that it was very well written, intricate web of intertwining lives that held the story together. It was good solid, story. Not binge worthy, not keeping you on the edge of your seat, but never-the-less an enjoyable listen.
