About this listen

Due to popular demand, the Vitalis Omnibus edition covers the first seven Vitalis stories!

Mysterious blackouts left Kira with precious few memories of events in her life, never mind those worth sharing. Somewhere in those blank spots she acquired skills - skills she was hard pressed to explain. But those skills got her a job as the new navigator for the Rented Mule, a transport ship that plied the Rim Systems at the very edge of human civilization.

When their ship is set upon by pirates Kira's skills allow her and the crew to escape, only to find themselves stranded in deep space with only one chance for survival, an undiscovered planet teeming with life that is light years beyond the borders of the Terran Coalition of Systems.

Forced to crash land, the crew of the Rented Mule learns immediately that the key to surviving on Vitalis is a closely guarded secret. Vitalis has a way of getting inside the mind, body, and soul of a person and once it's got them, it doesn't let them go.

Great Series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you like sci-fi, you will like this.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The planet itself...kind of alive in a strange sort of way.

Have you listened to any of James Killavey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have. I like his style. Good voices without going over the top.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

A lot of them, really, since this is actually a collection of several books.

Any additional comments?

Narrator is AWFUL!

Would you try another book from Jason Halstead and/or James Killavey?

I might try Halstead again, but Killavey is atrocious.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I really tried to get past the naration, and the story has potential. But I could only handle a few chapters before giving up.

What didn’t you like about James Killavey’s performance?

No sense of punctuation/pauses, really odd inflections. Also, no real change in voice for different characters.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger that I wasted a credit on this.

Worst performance ever

What disappointed you about Vitalis Omnibus?

Primarily the choice of James Killavey to narrate. It was so bad I don't think I can finish listening.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jason Halstead? Why or why not?

The story itself wasn't so bad, what I could bare to listen to. I might try him with either another narrator or text only.

What didn’t you like about James Killavey’s performance?

It honestly sounded like a computerised voice. Completely monotone, no emotion, no difference between characters (besides a slightly higher pitch for female characters), taking breaths in the wrong place and the sound of the licking of lips made it pretty much impossible to listen to. It's like a brick wall preventing you from getting in to the story.
