About this listen

They call me a monster. Murderous and hateful. Beautiful but broken. Nothing can calm the ever raging storm inside of me. As the ruthless leader of the Doubeck family, there is a certain standard of brutality, I have to uphold.

Then I meet her. Beautiful, innocent, and so very afraid. Valentina is a rival family's daughter, and the little temptress has purposely tangled herself in my dark web. She seeks me out, needing my help, but the price for what she wants will be steep.

Since my father’s death, I’ve needed a wife to solidify my family name, and this woman has piqued my interest. So we strike a deal, intertwining our futures. I’ll put a ring on her finger, own her body, keep her safe, and kill them all.

I make a vow to protect her at all costs, that is until her secrets come to light, and I’m left with the choice of becoming the monster she’s only ever heard rumors about.

This is a dark arranged-marriage mafia romance. It contains dub-con/non-con as well as other scenes that may be triggering to some listeners.

Bad female narrator

I didn’t mind the story, however the female narrator was BAD! Whiney and slow. Ruins the story telling.

Not bad but not good either

The heroine is so whiny and the female narrator didnt help… it was also a bit awkward when the female narrator was doing the hero’s dialogues…

Overall great book probably better read

This is a great book for mafia stories. I had to put it at 5 stars because Aaron Shedlock is one of the best narrators that I love. I think it could have been better done if he would have done the entire narrating. I don’t like leaving reviews about narrators that are anything but perfect, because I don’t want to take away from the story itself, which was great and worth a read but honesty, the female voice as she used to speak for the female was less than perfect. She actually did a great male voice but the female part was soo whiney it hurt my ears. She probably could do it better if she was allowed to redo the female parts or just let Aaron Shedlock redo it.

Can’t stand the whiny voice.

It’s a good story but the woman’s voice sounds like a whiny child. It’s annoying.

Good listen

Female narrator was a little too breathy. Male narrator was great. It was steamy and sexy

Female narrator and character beyond annoying!!

I am on book 2. I love the story so far. But just want to give anyone listening and reading the reviews a heads up, the female narrator makes the female character seem SOOOO much more weak than she is. I mean she is definitely wimpy and whiney but the narrator..... 🤦‍♀️ it's really hard to adjust to. I think she's tried to come off as young and innocent, but took a hard left into nervous and scared. The other voices she does sound just fine though. The story is really good so far. The male character is awesome; The male narrator is even better! I've listened to other things he's narrated and he always does a great job.

Survived the Performance

The FMC narrator made it hard to follow this story. I had to take a break and came back to change speed to 1.5 just to finish it because I hate to not finish books. The story was okay but not one I would reread but at least I was able to finish. I’m not sure if I’ll complete the series but I’ll finish Valentina and Adrian’s story and we will see if it’s worth going further than that.

Couldn’t get passed the women narrator

I wanted to enjoy this book, but the female’s voice was too distracting. Her voice was not pleasant and made me skip all her chapters so I missed a lot. His voice and narration should have been done in the entire book. He was the only salvation of getting through this book, but it ended in a cliffhanger a d I cannot subject myself to another book with the same female narrator.

Loved the story not the narrator!!

I had to dig deep to finish this one. Loved the story and that was the reason I was able to finish it! The female narrator took so much away from how awesome it could have been. She just sounded so monotoned and sometimes whiny! The male narrator did great!!
