About this listen

The last time witchy car mechanic Victoria Fox did magic, she nearly blew up half a street. Oops. No more magic for her, but is a witch who doesn’t do magic still a witch?

Well, she does have a kitty familiar named Professor Studmuffin Salvitore III. She also has a knack for inviting magical trouble to her shop’s doorstep.

Like her business rival who shows up and offers her a deal. A tempting deal, but she shuts the door in his face anyway. Moments later, his star employee drops dead.

All roads lead to Victoria as the murderer. The problem? She didn’t do it. The other problem? Almost no one believes her.

It’s now up to her and her kitty familiar to prove she’s innocent. Tiptoeing closer to the truth could put them both in danger, though. And it might just take a lead paw on the gas pedal to get them out.

Fun, Witchy Mystery!!

I quite enjoyed this story! Victoria was a fun character and I liked her style. She is a (non-practicing) witch with a fantastic familiar. Her dynamic with Boxsey, Travis, and Professor was great and I loved their dialogue together.
The mystery was interesting and Victoria trying to clear her name was pretty funny! Though, she'll need to work on her investigating skills in the future.
The story flowed nicely and the mystery came together quite well. I liked Victoria's character development and Professor Studmuffin's twist at the end!
I now must schedule reading the rest of the series because I'd love to see where they go (and the murders they'll solve)!

I liked the narrator, though her Southern/Georgian accent isn't something that clicked with me. She did a good job differentiating the voice of the characters.

Who Killed Jake Williams

Witch car mechanic Victoria has a kitty familiar named Professor Studmuffin Salvitore III. She also tends to attract trouble, such as the day Travis, her business rival at Speedy Zone shows up to offer her a deal. Vic’s dad had started Speedy Zone with Marcus Black, Travis’s dad, who then stole from the company. So with Travis offering her a deal to buy his shop when it should have been her dad’s shop anyway, she lost her temper and kicked him out. Shortly after, Jake Williams, his star employee, drops dead and the police are looking at Victoria as the murderer. With the help of her familiar, Studmuffin, can she clear her name and find the real killer?

The narrator for the audiobook is Louise Cooksey. She does a fair job with the voices to make it easier for the listener to get an idea of what each character is like, even including a southern accent when needed. It helps to set the mood and is an enjoyable way to “read” and enjoy the book.
