About this listen
Is darkness synonymous with ignorance and evil? Or is it the original matrix from which all life emerges, and the Mother to whom it returns? Higher and higher levels of artificial illumination have suppressed our contact with the numinous since the Industrial Revolution, with dire consequences for society, our planetary ecology, and our souls. This mystical testament weaves together paleobiology, memoir, history, science, and spiritual archaeology to lead listeners back into the lost mysteries of the dark. Not since The Teachings of Don Juan or Ishmael has a book diagnosed with such urgency and cultural coherence the problems at the heart of modern life.
In Waking Up to the Dark, Clark Strand offers penetrating insight into the spiritual enrichment that can be found when we pull the plug on our billion-watt culture. He argues that the insomnia so many of us experience as "the Hour of the Wolf" is really "the Hour of God"—a wellspring of rest and renewal, and an ancient reservoir of ancestral wisdom and inspiration. And in a powerful yet surprising turn, he shares with us an urgent message for the world, received through a mysterious young woman he calls Our Lady of Climate Change (aka THE VIRGIN MARY), about the challenges we all know are coming.

Story
Before a vision of a mysterious "Lady" invited Clark Strand and Perdita Finn to pray the rosary, they were not only uninterested in becoming Catholic but finished with institutional religion altogether. Their main spiritual concerns were the fate of the planet and the future of their children and grandchildren in an age of ecological collapse. But this Lady barely even referred to the Church and its proscriptions. Instead, she spoke of the miraculous power of the rosary to transform lives and heal the planet, and revealed the secrets within the rosary’s prayers and mysteries.

Story
What if you could live in a world where the guidance of those who were gone was available, right at your very fingertips? It's possible, if we are open to it. Anyone can reclaim the forgotten guidance of the dead, and anyone can return to the realm of magic and miracles. In Take Back the Magic: Conversations with the Unseen World, author, spiritual teacher, and co-founder of The Way of the Rose Perdita Finn reveals that life is beginningless, love is endless, and those who have passed don’t truly go anywhere when they die.

Story
As children we all had our imaginary friends and monsters in the closet. But for Suzan Saxman, those friends and monsters didn't go away--and they weren't imaginary. From an early age, Suzan knew instinctively that she had to hide her true self. She couldn't talk about the specters that haunted her, waking and dreaming. In bed with a childhood fever, rat-faced winged beings guarded her.

Story
To connect with the ultimate creative power that shapes and directs our lives, teaches Caroline Myss, we first need to learn its sacred medium of communication - what she calls "holy language". Whether through prayer, ritual, or inspired texts, holy language is our conduit to grace and the mystical domain. In these original audio sessions, Myss brings us a new chapter in her life's work: how holy language awakens the full emergence of who we truly are and empowers us to transform ourselves, individually and collectively, in the material, energetic, and spiritual dimensions.

Story
Western folklore and mythology are rife with brilliantly creative, fulfilled, feisty, and furious role models for aging women, despite our culture's focus on youthfulness. In her exciting new book, mythologist and psychologist Sharon Blackie explores these archetypes, presenting them in a way sure to appeal to contemporary women. Drawing inspiration from these examples, women can reclaim midlife as a liberating, alchemical moment rich with possibility and their elder years as a path to dynamic power.

A gospel, as ancient and authentic as any of the gospels that the Christian bible contains, was buried deep in the Egyptian desert after an edict was sent out in the 4th century to have all copies of it destroyed. Fortunately, some rebel monks were wise enough to refuse - and thanks to their disobedience and spiritual bravery, we have several manuscripts of the only gospel that was written in the name of a woman: The Gospel of Mary Magdalene.

Long before the sword-wielding heroes of legend readily cut down forests, slaughtered the old deities, and vanquished their enemies, there were playful gods, animal-headed kings, mischievous lovers, trickster harpists, and vegetal magicians with flowering wands. As eco-feminist scholar Sophie Strand discovered, these wilder, more magical modes of the masculine have always been hidden in plain sight.

Sacred sites of the Black Madonna are still revered in Italy, and, as Alessandra Belloni reveals, the shamanic healing traditions of the Black Madonna are still alive today and just as powerful as they were millennia ago. Sharing her more than 35 years of research and fieldwork at sacred sites, Belloni takes you on a mystical pilgrimage of empowerment, initiation, and transformation.

Bardskull is the record of three journeys made by Martin Shaw, the celebrated storyteller and interpreter of myth, in the year before he turned 50. It is unlike anything he has written before. This is not a book about myth or narrative: Rather, it is a sequence of incantations, a series of battles. Each of the three journeys sees Shaw walk alone into a Dartmoor forest and wait.

To the ancients, the goddess Hekate symbolized the inner journey back to the soul. Indeed, ancient philosophers identified her as Anima Mundi, the "soul of the world." As such, she connects many archetypes associated with the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. From her role as protector of roadways to her power as the bringer of death, she offers us keys for healing. Incorporating her personal experiences with those of her students, Cyndi Brannen weaves a supporting circle around the listener as they start their path towards soulful living, culminating in rebirth.

Not believing, but only experiencing, says Osho in this inspiring series of talks, is a way of finding truth and meaning. While Nietzsche's declaration that "God is dead, therefore man is free" was an incredible step in understanding, he argues, it is in itself a negative solution and does not bring freedom. Simply removing God is not enough. Osho is no atheist by far and not in favor of any "anti-believe" system either. "It is meditation that fulfills your inner being and takes away the vacuum that used to be filled by a great lie, God."

On the surface, this is a biography of an accomplished seeker who mastered the practices of yoga and brought a system for understanding the mysteries of body, mind, and spirit to students in the West. But, like the life of Swami Rama, this audiobook offers more than a sequence of astonishing events. As you read the stories of authentic guru-disciple relationships Swami Rama had both with his master and with his own students, you will see how the spiritual wisdom is transmitted through generations. This book also serves as a guide to advanced practices of yoga and tantra not commonly understood in modern times.

But this Lady barely even referred to the Church and its proscriptions. Instead, she spoke of the miraculous power of the rosary to transform lives and heal the planet, and revealed the secrets within the rosary’s prayers and mysteries.

Very loving and beautiful in it’s expression of the deep and dark of the Divine Mother. It’s a beautiful introduction to not only the Dark Mother but also how to reconnect with deeper layers of ourselves by embracing what we perceive as scary or uncomfortable when going into our own depths and embracing the dark.

As he and others say . . we've become locked inside of a very narrow view of reality and our world. This narrowed focus occurred as a natural part of other parts of human consciousness developing -- like, the left brain faculties of mind and the ability to truly embody ourselves as 'individuals' and not just sheep-like awareness. But it IS TIME to now see through this rich and piquant aspect of awareness to consciously recognizing our seamless ONENESS with all of life and each other. The "narrowing" of our focus happened so slowly over such a length of time that we can't see it . . . [unless and when discomfort with the falseness of seeing it as the whole truth] . . . makes us LOOK DEEPER than conventional assumptions. And Strand isn't the only one saying it. Many other spiritual teachers are saying these things -- many of them keeping much of the traditional teachings while also OPENING to these deeper truths that ARE within the traditional but which have been swept aside in the centuries-long wave of left brain development -- which has yielded many good fruits! It's time to marry the streams. I highly recommend this book.
Part of what Strand says is very dire. I feel it's important to add that to be more in tune and in love with the Mother we can and need also to be LIGHT and PLAYFUL and NOT WORRY about it all - all the time. TRUST is part of the love ;)

A combination of profound, deep bizarre ideas
Helped me recognize things in words but very ineffable rather disturbing insights, I think over my head and I am a very seasoned spiritual traveler. Very esoteric yet beautiful regardless.

Highly dissapointed
This is a very short book with only four hours or so of playtime, and the majority of it was very repetitive and really did not go into the black Madonna at all. I was hoping for more historical context and found this book. Incredibly disappointing.
