Publisher's summary

After bursting onto the fantasy scene with his acclaimed debut novel, Elantris, and following up with his blockbuster Mistborn trilogy, Brandon Sanderson proves again that he is today's leading master of what Tolkien called "secondary creation", the invention of whole worlds, complete with magics and myths all their own.

Warbreaker is the story of two sisters who happen to be princesses, the God King one of them has to marry, the lesser god who doesn't like his job, and the immortal who's still trying to undo the mistakes he made hundreds of years ago. Their world is one in which those who die in glory return as gods to live confined to a pantheon in Hallandren's capital city and where a power known as BioChromatic magic is based on an essence known as breath that can be collected only one unit at a time from individual people. By using breath and drawing upon the color in everyday objects, all manner of miracles and mischief can be accomplished. It will take considerable quantities of each to resolve all the challenges facing Vivenna and Siri, princesses of Idris; Susebron, the God King; Lightsong, reluctant god of bravery; and mysterious Vasher, the Warbreaker.

Brandon Sanderson delivers on another epic fantasy

Yet another book I Love! Lol
I listened to the audio version narrated by Alyssa Bresnahan and she was wonderful! I don't know why it took me so long to find this book and listen to it... I love Brandon Sanderson, but damn, I read reviews that said stuff, like "not his best" and "too political" and yes, long books intimidate me (I know... so stupid)... I loved the characters (including the sword [yes, the sword is a character] Nightblood), the magic system, and the story building. So don't get swayed by the naysayers and negativity, get the book!
I really enjoyed the audio book version of Warbreaker, and I think you will too!
Since I finished the book I discovered a free on-line copy, available on Brandon Sanderson's website. It's posted under the creative commons... the best part about this is that Brandon shares his thoughts about writing the book between each chapter, and I expect I will have to re-read the book soon!

Great world building as usual.

I liked the world building, and the plot twists in the story were great. The pace of the story felt slow even for Sanderson. I really struggled to finish the book because in the middle it was just full of slow character coming-of-age moments, and I didn't really care about most of the characters.

A fun ride

Like a typical Brandon Sanderson book, Warbreaker takes you on a fun ride through it's twists and turns. I've read/listened to all of Brandon's work and this book is one of my favorites from him.

Excellent

The narrator is superb and the characters are all likeable, even the bad guys. There is a great authenticity to this book that seems to be lacking in modern day fantasy books (& movies). I found it very refreshing.

I rated the story a 3 bc it was at times difficult for me to follow what was happening.
There was much about heightening that was not clear until the end. Perhaps that was the intent as Brandon Sanderson seems to enjoy intertwining a certain sense of mystery with sci-fi/fantasy in his writing style. Because of this, I am sure I will enjoy this book a little more the second time, and I do plan to listen again.

I love this story and it is probably my favorite book. There is a lot of good info in here about the greater cosmere as well.

Unexpectedly enjoyable

When I read the summary of what the book was suppose to be about it made little or no sense, so I didn't but the book initially. But after taking a chance and buying it, I found I really enjoyed it for various reasons and was very please when the story and the way it turned out because it was somewhat unexpected.

Solid

Brandon Sanderson did a good job on this book. I really enjoyed the journey. It has a lot of great character elements. the only thing that lacked was the ending, which is why I it four stars. Still certainly worth it though!! Brandon is a great writer!
