About this listen

Joanna just wants to spend the holiday curled up with her coven of handsome professors, but family obligations wait for no one. Instead of wintery cuddles, she's up to her neck in the Pike brothers and their wives, a cast of political figures invited to their dinner parties and, worst of all, Callum's father, Duncan. Duncan Pike is a nasty piece of work - not only did he place a young Callum in the heart of an ugly war, he disapproves of Isaac and Aiden.

Duncan claims a new war is coming, and it looks like he might be right. As if that weren't enough, the infamous warrior Sabine York is showing a marked interest in Callum - is she after revenge? Or does she want to add Callum to her coven of soldiers?

When trouble strikes and Callum is separated from the rest of the coven, Joanna, Isaac, and Aiden must travel from the library to the capitol to Vermenia, desperate for their reunion. And, on his own for the first time in years, Callum must tread carefully back into the waters of war he's spent decades avoiding.

Can they fight through the people and the miles standing between them and return safely together again?

Contains mature themes.

improvement and character development

this book was an improvement from the first one with a more developed story and increased character development. FMC is finding herself and the insecurities that were a primary focus in the first book are barely noted in this one. The men have some of their own worries they are still healing from due to FMC trying to leave them in the last book that does make some appearances but not to the point of annoyance or in a repetitive way. This had an engaging story line with low angst. I'm excited for book 3.

Love, love, loved it!!!

K. Moon is my newest fave author. I loved this book even more than the first. Seeing how Joanna is growing and getting more confident, seeing the coven's love for each other and as a whole, and how they overcame adversity was beautiful.
Joanna is passive and likes staying in her circle mainly her coven. But, she becomes a fearless lioness when it comes to the people she loves and cares about. She is selfless and as we see through the series, quite powerful.
The love scenes in the book are exquisite. This is the first series where I listened to M/M and found it done tastefully and beautifully. The love these men have for each other and for Joanna is simply bewitching! ;)
As I continue to books 3 and 4, I know I will listen to this series again and again.

Hard to put down!

I loved this sequel to Kathryn Moon's Librarian's Coven series! My favorite of the guys before coming into this book was Callum but how the 2 helped rally around Joanna helped make them even. I loved the story in this one too!

So in Book 2, Joanna and her coven have to deal with a horrible plot that tries to start a war between the two countries. Callum is put in the middle and is held hostage (not in horrible conditions, but in captivity nonetheless) while Joanna, Isaac, and Aiden figure out a way to get him back. We get to see Joanna embrace her magic even more and figure out a way to save the day. Joanna must trust some characters who helped put them all in this mess, in order to rescue Callum. I loved getting to meet new characters, especially those across the border and Callum's fill-in mother figure. I wanted to punch his dad in the nose, but Joanna totally took care of him hahaha. Favorite scene by far. Kathryn did a great job getting me more invested in their coven, and the friend coven with Bryce and Hildi. Bought book 3 right away on audio because I needed to know what happened next!

In terms of the narration, Cornell and Sienna did fantastic jobs again. I felt the tension and love between Joanna and her men. I really believed them when Callum's dad was involved how horrible and conniving he was. The different brothers and sister in laws in Callum's family were brilliantly done as well. The famous fighter coven was performed amazingly too, especially those with extra accents. These narrators are very talented and really make this world come to life ❤️

Took me a while

It took me a while to get into this. I was able to put it down several times. About halfway through, it got more interesting. I don't know what it is about this series. It isn't as satisfying to me as some of, many of, her other books. I don't find the guys to have much personality, and I find the pace drags in parts.

Callum, that was not wise!

Are you freaking kidding me, Callum?! I get that we don't want to blame victims and all. But Joanna tells you to be careful around Sabine and her pack, and you go off into the middle of nowhere with them without telling anyone?! And you're meant to be this perfect strategist? Come on!

Seeing the coven use their special talents to get Callum back was a treat. Especially because we got some quality time with Bryce!! Again. I only have one teeny tiny request to read a series all about Bryce and their coven!!! I have to know how Gwen locked them down!

But ultimately Joanna, Isaac, and Aiden do everything they can to get Callum back. And the concept of Joanna's written magic working in a tattoo is HOT! I freaking love that!

this review is for all 4 books in the series

If you enjoy sappy romantic frivolous nonsense this book is for you.
This book had true potential but was really only a really simple and straightforward love story where the love just appears for no reason I can see. Joanna has an almost constant woe is me attitude "oh these men are so amazing and I'm so worthless" over and over again. It gets ridiculous and frustrating really fast. She has no spine or self respect and her conviction that she's worthless without magic sickens me. she does mostly get over this by the end of the series but not in a way that makes sense to me. Then she figures out that she has magic she's imeadelety on board with the relationship. At 27 years old I would expect her to not act like a 13 year old. Then she tries to leave them for their own good and 10 minutes later she's fucking Aiden and promising to never do it again.
Everything in this series happens way too fast and way too easily, there is little to no tension or build up. I almost think she wrote the sex scenes first and the rest of the story was just filler, The only reason I continued with this story after the first book is because I liked the idea of a librarian Wordsmith so much. I wish a different author had had the idea though, one that could do it justice. I don't think this author ever got the advice; show don't tell. It's good advice for authors and I wish she would do more of it.
At first I didn't think I liked the narrator's but by the end of the series I thought they were pretty good, they just took some getting used to.
