About this listen

Set in 1937 in rural Tennessee, with the construction of a monumental dam serving as background - a cinematically biblical effort to harness elemental forces and bring power to the people - Watershed delivers a gripping story of characters whose ambitions and yearnings threaten to overflow the banks of their time and place.

Nathan, an engineer hiding from his past, and Claire, a small-town housewife, struggle to find their footing in the newly electrified, job-hungry, post-Depression South. As Nathan wrestles with the burdens of a secret guilt and tangled love, Claire struggles to balance motherhood and a newfound freedom that awakens ambitions and a sexuality she hadn't known she possessed.

The arrival of electricity in the rural community - where violence, prostitution, and dog-fighting are commonplace - thrusts together the federal and local worlds, in an evocative feat of storytelling in the vein of Kent Haruf's Plainsong and Ron Rash's Serena.

I struggled with this book. I felt like it took too long to finish it. I'm still not really sure what the story was even about..

I'm not sure if this was a good book or not.

This book had potential….but just really don’t understand the point of it. I have so many unanswered questions. I was so irritated when I heard “the end”. That was not and ending! So glad it was a free one.

An extraordinary story that brings you to a time in history through such characters that touch you son much that you feel you are living it. Gloriously written and stunningly read!

A well told story of an interesting time in history. . . My family came from rural Tnn & surely electricity was a miracle.

Fascinating read

A snipet of life in a small town USA and how advances in technology affect us.

The story was interesting. It kept me engaged. Narration good. But that ending really didn’t make sense that me. It didn’t go the direction I thought it would and it left a giant void for the main character. You never found out what happened to him.

Didn’t like the ending

Struggled to finish this book. Story wasn't at all as I expected. Narrator was difficult to listen to at times.

Tough listen

Dear Author…You get us completely involved in the characters and their storyline… You go into extreme detail about how the south becomes electric through dams… And then your ending just flat sucks!!! Your readers want to know how Nathan ends his story when he goes back to his family… We want to see revenge on Hull… and for goodness sake you had us all fall in like with that honoree rough and ragged Freytag… what in the world happened with him????
The narrator of this book was wonderful! So appreciated.
I can only give overall and story three stars… Because the ending feel so flat. 🙁

Seriously????

i did not like the ending. I would listen to Christian Baskous read the "help wanted" ads as long as he doesn't try a southern accent. Even though this book is set in the south, he keeps that in check on this one.

loved the book, but...

I was enjoying this story until the very end which just left everything hanging. Epilogue seemed unrelated to the rest of the story.

Good until the ending
