Joanna Gaines
About this listen
In the number one New York Times best seller We Are the Gardeners, Joanna Gaines and the kids chronicle the adventures of starting their own family garden. From their failed endeavors, obstacles to overcome (bunnies that eat everything), and all of the knowledge they gain along the way, the Gaines family shares how they learned to grow a happy, successful garden.
We Are the Gardeners is a whimsical audiobook perfect for:
- Ages four to eight
- Parents, libraries, classroom story times, and discussions focusing on springtime and gardening
- Households that enjoy watching HGTV's Fixer Upper
- Young children and families interested in gardening and plants
After listening, children will learn:
- Trying something new isn't always easy, but the hardest work often yields the greatest reward
- The basic steps and process of starting a garden
- The importance of patience and how it is possible to learn from your mistakes
You and your children will learn all about the Gaines family's story of becoming gardeners in Joanna's first children's book - starting with the first little fern Chip bought for Jo. Over the years, the family's love for gardening has blossomed into what is now a beautiful, bustling garden.

Story
Joanna Gaines' new book, The Stories We Tell, invites us on an authentic and deeply vulnerable journey into her story—and helps shine a light on the beauty of our own—guiding us to release the weights that hold us back so we may live and share our story in truth. We've all dropped anchor in places that suited us for a time: a city, a perspective, a lie we mistook as truth. This book is an invitation to a kind of life where you know how to hold what you believe—about yourself and the quiet worlds behind the people you pass—with gracious and open hands.

Critic reviews
"What better way to learn about the joys of gardening than to hear members of a family sharing their experience? Meet the Gaineses, who had no experience with growing things when they started with 'Fern Number One' and then moved on to a houseful, and then to a 'yardful' of plants. Along the way, this family shares both the science and practicality of gardening; for example, overhydration equals 'too many drinks for a little plant.' As listeners learn the basics of gardening, exuberance and enthusiasm shine in the narrators. The pacing and inflection are varied as the production bounces quickly from speaker to speaker. Meet garden heroes (ladybugs) and villains (aphids), composters (worms) and bullies (weeds), and ponder sage tips ('trying and failing and trying again')." (A.R. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award 2019)

Story
The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Story
When a charming polar bear cub climbs into bed one night, she asks her Mama a very important question, one that little “human cubs” often wonder about, too: “Where did I come from”? As Mama bear tucks her youngest cub under the quilts, she gently, tenderly, and reassuringly communicates the message loving parents everywhere (bears and non-bears alike) want their little ones to hear: "We wanted you very, very much, and we are so very glad because - God gave us you".

Simple yet motivating
Thank you Gaines family! I have had several plants die on me because I’ve either watered them too much, or too little and I convinced myself I would never be able to have nice plants or a garden for that matter. But your lesson with the fern has reminded me to never give up! I will try again and think of your family’s gardening story. Thank you! Cute book
