About this listen

"Ed Hardy" is emblazoned on everything from t-shirts and hats to perfumes and energy drinks. From Los Angeles to Japan, his colorful cross-and-bones designs and ribbon-banners have become internationally ubiquitous. But long before the fashion world discovered his iconic designs, the man behind the eponymous brand spearheaded nothing less than a cultural revolution.

In Wear Your Dreams, Ed Hardy recounts his genesis as a tattoo artist and leader in the movement to recognize tattooing as a valid and rich art form, through to the ultimate transformation of his career into a multibillion dollar branding empire. From giving colored pencil tattoos to neighborhood kids at age ten to working with legendary artists like Sailor Jerry to learning at the feet of the masters in Japan, the book explains how this Godfather of Tattoos fomented the explosion of tattoo art and how his influence can be witnessed on everyone, from countless celebs to ink-adorned rockers to butterfly-branded, stroller-pushing moms. With over fifty different product categories, the Ed Hardy brand generates over $700 million in retail sales annually.

Ideal for ink devotees and Ed Hardy aficionados alike, Wear Your Dreams is a never-before-seen look at the tattoo artist who rocked the art world and has left a permanent mark on fashion history.

Finally an intelligent book on tattoos as an art form

What a refreshing change, a book on tattoos written by a highly articulate, artistically sensitive and literate author. It was a breath of fresh air after all those semi-literate books about tattooing in an environment of booze, drugs and squalid environments....

This book is superb and a beacon of light into a fascinating art form

About as honest as it gets.

Whether your a seasoned tattooer that is horrified by some of his admissions, most of us threatened with harsh punishment for telling “secrets”.
OR.
You’re an avid reader that likes the challenge of keeping up with an author, who is so fluently versed in his career that he needs only gloss over certain details to keep you immersed.

You will, greatly, enjoy this book.

Ed Hardy is more than a brand.

Ok, so I stumbled upon this book while looking for a good listen about tattoos and boy oh boy this is not what I thought I would find. When I would hear the name Ed Hardy I always thought of the Family Guy jokes about the clothing line so I never looked into it any further and I'm truly sorry I hadn't before. Ed Hardy is so much more than a clothing brand, Ed is truly an artist that started from nothing, in a field that wasn't even considered real art at the time. This book really opens your eyes to why many consider Ed Hardy to be the Godfather of tattooing, from starting with such simple boyhood dreams to traveling around the world to learn the different tattoo styles first hand. Mister Hardy is truly an example of where hard work and discipline can get you in line. If you love art and or tattoos you must listen, on a plus side after watching an interview with Ed I found the narrator sounds very similar to him which really added to the experience. I just finished about a week ago and yet I already want to replay it and go on Ed's journey again.
