About this listen

It happened so fast, it spread through the world like wildfire. It was impossible to control and almost impossible to fight....

Ten years has passed since an infectious virus nearly consumed all of mankind. Millions died, millions more became infected, changed, and turned into mindless, feral hunters bent on the consumption of living flesh.

Archer was a solitary man, scavenging what he could to survive off the ruins of the world that no longer existed. A world gone mad, where those who still lived were just as great of threat as those who were infected.

Without knowing it, he finds himself in possession of a map that leads to a hidden sanctuary with the possible means to stop it all. All he has to do is get her there alive....

Riveting!

Simply amazing, so fun and gritty. Archer is such a real character that it makes you want to have a love hate relationship with him. The narrator's gruff tone really set the world apart from a plain read through. can't wait to read more.

Well Written and Well Told

I think at this point we all expect zombie stories to lack originality, but if a story is well written, as this one is, we can all look past that. What James Fuller does give us is a handful of well written characters, each with flaws and strengths that are relatable, leaving you rooting for them, even some of the "bad guys." At the heart of the story is a relationship forged in mutual survival and unexpected camaraderie in a gruff post apocalyptic world. I truly enjoyed it. thank you!

WOW! Just WOW!

OMG! What will I do now! I know, read book two! This is NOT my usual genre, but I took a chance and I am so thrilled I did. The author did a fantastic job creating this world in the future, the danger of it and all it's craziness. The characters are so real and raw. You sink your teeth in and don't want to let go. There is danger lurking around every corner, you can't trust anyone and everyone wants to kill you. Yet some alliances are formed our of necessity and that in itself can be dangerous. Archer, a man who has survived alone and wants no partners, is suddenly tasked with the care of a young girl named Auska, who's family was killed. She has a very important mission to complete, and even though he doesn't like it, he now helps her. They encounter so much. Things I can't comprehend how they survived yet the do and keep on moving forward. Until one of them makes the ultimate sacrifice for the other, just so the mission can be carried out. I was on the edge of my seat, biting nails and wanting for bad for them to both make the journey. I can't wait to see what book 2 holds in store. I listened to the audio version of this book and the narrator did a FANTASTIC job. He really did well with the different characters and the story telling overall.

Decent zombie adventure

Overall entertaining. Story line progresses nicely. Sometimes it seems over detailed and makes thing slow. The narrator was good, many distinct voices, I found I preferred listening at 1.1-1.2 speed, or it dragged a bit. Well developed characters and “realistic” situations.

Trigger warnings: while it didn’t bother me there was violence, sexual content and crude language. But no more than usual for this genre.

I was provided this audible book for free in exchange for my honest review.

Gritty post-apocalyptic tale of survival

To me the story feels like a blend of the Walking Dead and Mad Max, in which a hardened and solitary survivor reluctantly takes a child under his protection and overcomes his selfishness and cynical hopelessness to accomplish something greater than himself. He’s no hero, and has no ambitions of accomplishing anything heroic, but he has to make choices. By making these choices, he discovers that he still cares about certain things, and allows someone else to hold on to their hope. That in itself makes him a bit of a hero in the end, in a world full of bad people.

Listening to this audiobook was a treat, the narrator did an excellent job, and managed to create very distinct voices for each character.

Archer's not your typical babysitter...😅

Archer is definitely not a nice guy, but what he lacks in compassion, he makes up for with grit.

Excellent! Like "Book of Eli" meets "I Am Legend"

Vivid imagery instantly drops you into a post-apocalyptic world. The exploration of human capacities for cruelty, and compassion are realistic and insightful. Excited for book 2!
