Started common, ended uncommon

I bought this because it was written by Aaron Copland, the great American composer of the twentieth century. At first I was very disappointed because it was so basic. I guess I expected more out of Copland. But as he got into greater details and especially about how to listen to contemporary music, my interest peeked and I began to learn things. I am grateful for the insights he gave me. I am a musician, and I want to be able to enjoy all kinds of music, not just the classics.
