About this listen

From Wall Street Journal best-selling author Giana Darling comes an enemies-to-lovers forbidden romance between an ice-cold lawyer and her infamous mafioso client who is on trial for murder...

I am the villain of my own story...

Jilted by my fiancé.

A disappointment to my family.

Haunted by my childhood traumas.

I felt so much all my life that I resolved to feeling nothing at all.

Until I met my match.

As the most infamous mafioso of the 21st century, Dante Salvatore was madly passionate, unequivocally bad, and entirely too dangerous to know. He was everything I abhorred, yet I found myself representing him in the biggest criminal trial of the decade.

I was so focused on winning and achieving the success I deserved that I didn't notice the gorgeous, black-eyed man's effect on me until it was too late. My icy heart had been held too close to his flame, and now I wouldn't let Dante go down without fighting with everything I had in me. Even if the cost of a new life with him meant the loss of my old life and everything I thought I held dear.

Book one in the Anti-Heroes in Love Duet.

Addicting, intensely moving & undeniably luscious

This is the first book in Dante and Elena's story so be prepared for that looming cliffy. It was sinfully easy to get swept up into this dark romance, its powerful storyline and the complex characters that populate it. This duet stands exceptionally well on its own but there are plenty of ties here to other works by this author. This is especially true for The Evolution Of Sin trilogy (Giselle & Sinclair) and The Enslaved Duet (Cosima & Alexander). So if you find yourself intrigued, and honestly, I believe that you will, be sure to check them out. This author is incredibly skillful at crafting vivid worlds that you never want to leave and characters that are so genuine that they not only feel like your dearest friends but like beloved family. Dante and Elena are compelling and complicated characters. Each has a painful past and the baggage to prove it. The relationship gets off to a slow burning start that is fueled by fiery sparks, rich angst and taut tension intermixed with humorous and emotional moments until "POW", and an explosion of sizzle and steam sets these two ablaze. Along with the heat and romance you get massive amounts of drama and suspense, danger, action, secrets and twists that will have you desperate to see where it's all going and anxious about what the fallout is going to be once you get there. Totally addicting, intensely moving and undeniably luscious, Dante and Elena have me firmly entangled in their web needing book two ASAP!! I loved the narration on this book. The voices where easy to listen to and fit the characters well. I thought both performances were excellent.

Il Capo e sua Donna, #GOALS!

I was obsessed with these two on paper but the audio version is another LEVEL!

I truly believe Dante and Elena are Giana's best couple; they are so different and completely opposites but that only adds up to how much they connect and interact with each other.

I think Dante and Elena are meant to be together; they are true soulmates!

Can't want to listen to When Villains Rise!!!

PS: The only thing I want to call out is that the narrator voicing Elena kept saying "Donte"; that was hilarious...

One of my Top Favorite audiobooks!! A must listen!

Hands down one of my TOP FAVORITE audiobooks!!! These narrators brought this story to life in every way….emotion, suspense and passion!!!

What do you get when you cross an ice queen with a hot mafioso capo written by this author? Pure fire and

I know when I read a G Darling book that first off the writing is going to be brilliant - it is timeless and reads like prose. And secondly - there is going to be crazy sexual tension and hot sensual characters that burn up the pages, and this book is no different. Not only will the chemistry between Dante & Elena and the mafia suspense keep you glued to the pages; but for me it was Elena's character development - her revelations and inner battle between right and wrong, good and bad, and realizing the true meaning of family, loyalty and love made this ice queen thaw, and I admired her more and more on each page.

Elena Lombardi was a villain going into this book...the previous betrayal by her ex and her sister led her to retaliate with cruel words and actions. Her life has not been easy - and she has put up concrete walls around her heart that she was not willing to let down. But when capo Dante Salvatore steps into her life he is just what she needs to reevaluate what she thought was the perfect and straight and narrow path of life. She was afraid to veer far from it, motivated by only her career, success and money. But when she is brought on Dante's criminal case, her eyes are quickly opened to the dark secrets and betrayals of who she thought were heroes, and the villains suddenly didn't not seem as bad as she believed them to be.

This is a story of finding yourself again, of accepting your flaws for what they are, and being brave enough to take a chance on what you thought you may never have. The underlying theme of heroism versus villainy is written brilliantly into both Dante & Elena's dialogues, and the character development and how they are each perceived had me completely captivated to their story. Their contradicting outer selves pieced together so perfectly that I could not imagine one without the other. Dante charmed his dark and dangerous self into Elena's life so seamlessly, and I fell head over heels for him and his possessive and alpha persona. Dante truly is a dark knight in this story and I can't wait to see what is in store for this couple in When Villains Rise.

"Whatever you and I are made of, it's the same. You don't have to be good with me, right or true in any sense, but especially the conventional. You can be your worst self with me."

Well done once again G Darling!!!

Elena and Dante are fire!!

Let me just start by saying, I didn’t like Elena at first, after reading all the other Lombardi books, Elena is really a hard character to want to read about. But with some of Giana’s magic she painted a picture and I simply could not stop until I got to the very end. The connection between her and Dante is scorching and watching Elena come into her own because of it makes you understand her character and want to read more.

This is the first book in the Anti-Heroes in Love Duet and I cannot wait to read book two, good thing they are both readily available. This story is emotional, seductive and dark, and this is where Giana shines brightest. I love the way she spins a story and I can’t wait to read more!!

I Could Have Listened To This Book For Forever

When Heroes Fall is the first book in the Anti-Hero's in love Duet from Giana Darling. This is the story of Dante Savatore and Elena Lombardi. She is living her life doing her thing but carries around a shattered heart. Mine would be too if I was her. He is a mafioso who is charged with three very serious crime but the on the judge if focused on is murder. She has met him one time before but now she is on the team of lawyers representing him because her sister called her in hysterics needing a favor. This is it. Help the big bad man get out of the charges and go free. At first she hates him and I do mean hates him with passion and knows with everything in her that he is guilty as sin. Dante however is a very charming man and he get under Elena's skin way to easy. But before long he isn't getting under her skin in the I hate you kind of way but more the where the heck did this guy come from and how did I not see him coming from a million miles away kind of way. I loved both of these characters. Elena is the strong girl who is fighting to be the best lawyer she can be and has her life together except for when it comes to romance and love. After all her fiancé did leave her for her sister and man if that had happened to me I would be mad at the entire world. Dante is possessive, super confident and boy oh boy does he have this charming side to him. I loved both of these characters but I really loved the story more that anything. This book has one fantastic plot and will keep you one your toes and one the edge of your seat. I loved every second of it and so can not wait to have the next book in my hands.
The Narrator's did an absolutely amazing job and I felt like I was watching a mini movie in my head as I was listening.

Top 5

This is one of the best duets I’ve listened to in a while. It’s well written and very well narrated. The female narrator does narrate more, but she does the accents and all tremendously. I recommend!

Amazing

I am speechless. I am breathless. I am wrung dry and yet I am still desperate for more.

Giana Darling delivers one of the most complex and eye opening dives into not just the mafia world, but the female psyche in When Heroes Fall (Book 1 Anti Heroes in love duet).

If you have read the Enslaved Duet and or the Evolution of Sin Trilogy, Elena Lombardi is set up to be the most dislikable female character. So I went in with very low expectations on Elena. I already knew I was going to be madly in love with Dante, but we will get to him. Instead, from chapter one, Elena’s depth, complexity, heartbreak, and loneliness grips you. She is so much more than her cold exterior. Her drive for success and perfection, is rooted so deeply in her past that you will find yourself desperate to be forgiven for your prior prejudice against her.

Dante Salvatore cannot possibly define more male dominance and pure romantic if he tried. This man is everything you could possible want in a male hero (anti hero). He is strong, quick witted, highly intelligent, ruthless, and patient, kind, and understanding there is no other option than to fall. Even-though he harness all the power of the New York City Camorra, he never uses it as a fear tactic against Elena. There is more power in kindness than in fear and Dante defines that.

When Heroes Fall will make you question everything moral and the very foundation of your makeup.
