About this listen
The top five Sunday Times best seller.
Theatres have a certain kind of magic. When the curtain rises, we are all enraptured by the glare of the lights and the smell of the greasepaint, but it's when the curtain falls that the real drama begins....
In 1952 two young lovers meet, in secret, at the beautiful Southern Cross theatre in the very heart of London's West End. Their relationship is made up of clandestine meetings and stolen moments because there is someone who will make them suffer if he discovers she is no longer 'his'. But life in the theatre doesn't always go according to plan, and tragedy and heartache are waiting in the wings for all the players....
Almost 70 years later, a new production of When the Curtain Falls arrives at the theatre, bringing with it Oscar Bright and Olive Green and their budding romance. Very soon, though, strange things begin to happen, and they learn about the ghost that's haunted the theatre since 1952, a ghost who can be seen on only one night of the year. Except the ghost is appearing more often and seems hell-bent on sabotaging Oscar and Olive. The young couple realise they need to right that wrong from years gone by, but can they save themselves before history repeats itself and tragedy strikes once more?
Moulin Rouge meets Phantom of the Opera in this spellbinding and magical story of unrequited love and revenge. When the Curtain Falls is Carrie Hope Fletcher at her romantic best - it will take your breath away.

As far as the rest of the town is concerned, she's simply the kind-hearted young woman who runs the local bakery, but in private she uses her gift to add something special to her cakes so that after just one mouthful, the townspeople start to feel better about their lives.

Kira Murphy is a liability, always has been. She might be small, but her personality and heart are not: A sexual health doctor with a foul mouth, pink streaks in her hair, a bizarre worldview, a reputation for being "pathologically social", and a huge crush on the current minister of state for business, energy, and clean growth, she’s weird and lovable in equal measure.

Story
New Year's Eve, 1929. Millie is running the show at the Cloak & Dagger, a swinging speakeasy in the French Quarter, while her aunt is out of town. The new year is just around the corner, and all of New Orleans is out to celebrate, but even wealthy partiers' diamond earrings can't outshine the real star of the night: the boy in the red dress. Marion is the club's star performer and his fans are legion - if mostly underground. When a young socialite's body is found crumpled in the courtyard, dead from an apparent fall off the club's balcony, all signs point to Marion as the murderer.

C Fletchers best book yet!
My previous complaints with Carrie Hope Fletcher books centered around the stakes not being set high enough and, oh boy, did that change with this novel. This book has everything I loved about her previous books + the developed skill of a more seasoned writer! Trigger warning for sexual assult, not overly graphic and handeled very well in my opinion.
