About this listen

This is the untold story of the rediscovery of the ancient City of David in Jerusalem and the powerful evidence that proves the Jewish people’s historical and indigenous connection to the Holy Land.

Since the founding of Israel in 1948, the Jewish people have faced nine wars against multiple enemies. Yet, beyond the physical conflicts, a deeper ideological battle has been waged against Israel and the Jewish people. This war, crafted by certain Arab leaders and echoed by international organizations like the United Nations, seeks to erase the Jewish people’s ancestral ties to the land, casting them as outsiders, imposters, and “settlers.”

One thing, however, stands in the way of the denialists: the 3,800-year history of the City of David, a site lying just south of the Old City. Archeologists at the site are unearthing evidence that proves the Jewish people’s origin story in the land for over three millennia. Every shovel of dirt reveals that while others may claim to be indigenous to Jerusalem, the Jewish people are, in fact, more indigenous to the Land of Israel than perhaps any other group living anywhere in the world.

This is the timely story of those who transformed City of David from a neglected hilltop village into one of the most important archeological heritage sites in the world, while facing powerful global institutions and terror groups that would do almost anything to keep this truth hidden. Highly relevant to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, this book foreshadows the events and historical denialism that unfolded with Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

Brilliant performance and fascinating subject matter that pulled me in for hours at a time. In a world where people speak “my (their) truth,” the discovery and excavation of the City of David tells THE truth. The Jews are indigenous to Jerusalem and Doron Spielman and colleagues dug up the City of David to give us the receipts. His performance was captivating, clear, and well paced. Pretty impressive for a nice Jewish boy from West Bloomfield, Michigan. I traveled to Israel in my younger years and I felt a flicker of connection to the land. Now, after listening to this book I feel, in my kishkas, that those of us in the diaspora are truly in exile from our homeland. I know that the next time I land in Eretz Yisrael it will feel like a homecoming. This audiobook will inspire you.

I loved this book! The story was compelling, I learned so much and it changed my long held beliefs about the Bible. It shed light on the cause of antisemitism and antizionism and left me with even more admiration for Israel, Israelis and the diaspora.
I loved that the author read the book. He was articulate and emotional in all of the right places. It was captivating.

Every human should read this book!

This book is for all believers of the Bible.

As first I thought it was simply a book on new discoveries of Biblical archaeology but it was so much more than that.

The author makes a case for the existence of country of Isreal by going deep into its history, such as the Roman Empire burning the second temple and then renaming the area Syria-Palestina.

It is a beautiful book show casing a community of people who are working together under extreme pressure to bring words of the Bible to life.

Please read and share.

For anyone who thinks they know the history of Israel. I was surprised by some of the information, but the best part of this book was, for me, development of what I already knew. I highly recommend.
