About this listen

Sarah O'Shaughnessy, a high school counselor, is very good at taking care of others. What she hasn't mastered is how to take better care of herself. Four years after the death of her wife, Sarah's life has settled into a safe, solitary rut. That is until the arrival of a new student and her mom.

Lauren Emerson and her teen daughter, Kat, move back to Lauren's hometown in Central New York, fleeing her unsupportive husband and Kat's traumatic bullying experience. Lauren is determined to create a better life for them both. She soon discovers that the compassionate Ms. O'Shaughnessy is someone in whom she can confide.

The newly forged friendship between Sarah and Lauren provides support and encouragement, yet neither is prepared for the undeniable attraction that ignites between them. When the future looks like nothing they had planned, will they find the courage to go where love leads?

The narrator was great. The story was a good plot but would have been better without the author's stereotyping an ignorant, intolerant South. Like those states north of the Mason-Dixon line, there are many liberal pockets and conservative pockets. Prejudice doesn't only belong to the Southern states. Also, I found a few other things in the story that just didn't ring true for me.

a few things keep this from being great

This was a very moving and powerful Story. The Narrator was ok but did not do the story justice.

It was tough to listen to. Narrator’s voice does not match characters. She sounds a lot older than the characters description

I liked this book even though it was drawn out. What I enjoyed the most was the supportive relationships throughout the book. Coming out and finding one's self is not easy but in the end very rewarding. I expected a little faster of a pace but in a book like this, being patient is key. I absolutely love the narrator tho. Her voice is melodious and easy on the ears. Overall good book!!

Nice but long and drawn at times.
