Publisher's summary

“Fans of Sonali Dev and Helen Hoang will find this just their style.”—The New York Times

Star-crossed lovers get a second chance at romance when they’re reunited at a wedding in Nigeria, in a heartfelt novel from the acclaimed author of The Sweetest Remedy.

Dunni hasn’t seen her high school boyfriend, Obinna, since she left Nigeria to attend college in America. Before their devastating separation, they vowed to find their way back to each other one day.

Twelve years later, and their vow is a thing of the past. Dunni works as a geneticist in Seattle and is engaged to a man she doesn’t love but one her parents approve of. Her future is laid out for her, and everything is going according to plan until she returns to Nigeria for a friend’s wedding and runs into Obinna. The shy, awkward boy she loved as a teenager is now a sophisticated, confident man. Things have changed, but there’s still an undeniable connection between them.

As they rediscover each other, their days filled with desire and passion, Dunni is reminded of the beautiful future she once planned with Obinna. But when devastating secrets are revealed and the reckless actions of their past bring new challenges, she’s left questioning everything, including if the love that consumed her as a teenager is still worth holding on to.

“Jane Igharo tortured my emotions in the very best way with this beautifully written story of love that would not be denied. This is the second-chance romance you’ve been waiting for.”—Farrah Rochon, USA Today Bestselling author of The Hookup Plan

“A sumptuous. evocative and heartfelt second-chance romance. Jane Igharo writes beautifully, and you can't help but be immersed in the romance, the culture and the richly-drawn setting of Lagos, Nigeria, and root for Obinna and Dunni as they find their way to each other.”—Lauren Ho, author of Lucie Yi Is Not A Romantic and Last Tang Standing

“Igharo’s masterfully nuanced writing delineates the detailed emotions and thoughts of her protagonists and makes for a superbly memorable read."Booklist (starred review)

Awesome

This was an immensely great life story and it was well narrated! The main characters were well developed and you feel their emotions.

So wonderful!

For anyone who believes, or wants to believe in fate and true love. This turned out to be a special and transporting listen. The reader does a pretty good job too distinguishing between the voices of the different characters and between their older and younger selves 👍

The Noises I was Making

This is the first book, in a long time, that I was very audible about. The shock of so many things. This is a must-read!

Very entertaining!

I liked the book, but I do wish for an extension on the ending. It was like the author had to be somewhere, so she quit.
It was a (HEA) which was excellent, but a novel has to be excellent to make it an overall five-star! It is definitely worth the credit, tho! There could be a story behind this one. Then she could give us an update on the main characters... all is forgiven.

Always down for an African Story

Loved the complexity of their love story, bit too complex at times but, kept me wanting for more. African stories just warm my heart and have a lovely familiarity about them.
