About this listen

A Chickasaw woman who can’t catch a break serves up a little white lie that snowballs into much more in this USA Today bestselling rom-com by critically acclaimed author Danica Nava.

Ember Lee Cardinal has not always been a liar—well, not for anything that counted at least. But her job search is not going well and when her resumé is rejected for the thirty-seventh time, she takes matters into her own hands. She gets “creative” listing her qualifications and answers the ethnicity question on applications with a lie—a half-lie, technically. No one wanted Native American Ember, but white Ember has just landed her dream accounting job on Park Avenue (Oklahoma City, that is).

Accountant Ember thrives in corporate life—and her love life seems to be looking up as well: Danuwoa Colson, the IT guy and fellow Native who caught her eye on her first day, seems to actually be interested in her too. Despite her unease over the no-dating policy at work, they start to see each other secretly, which somehow makes it even hotter? But when they're caught in a compromising position on a work trip, a scheming colleague blackmails Ember, threatening to expose their relationship. As the manipulation continues to grow, so do Ember’s lies. She must make the hard decision to either stay silent or finally tell the truth, which could cost her everything.

I LOVED IT!

I read this for my book club (it was the September pick) and was extremely delighted at the humor and warmth of this book. I laughed at so many parts and loved the characters of Ember and Danuwoa. Will definitely look forward to more books from Danica Nava. The narration was also really good. Highly recommend this book!

Native Love ♥️

This book was an absolute joy to listen to. The story was wonderfully written, funny and sexy. I listened to it in one day and will definitely be listening to it again. I hope it’s the first of many to feature Native Romance. More please!

This book made me so happy!!

Characters JUMPED to life with the writing + narration! Ember had me chuckling from her observations and antics. I was cheering for her the whole way! Danuwoa is supportive but also doesn't take her foolishness while being so HOT. What a man! Loved hearing the dear listener & acknowledgments at the end.

A perfect rom-com!

Heartwarming, laugh out loud funny and at times heartbreaking, this book was a ride I didn't want to end. And don't miss the author's note after the epilogue.

Loved this

Fell in love with these characters, flaws and all.

I was planning to give this book a 4 star for the humor, characters and story. And then I got to the steamy scenes and decided to give it a 5.

Fun read.

Finally!

Hope that this is the start of many more native rom-coms! The story goes through realistic toxic workplace, family tensions, and just trying to get your life together in your twenties. Ember was awesome and I was rooting for her! The love connection with Danuwoa was anything but cheesy and more like pass the hot sauce ;) I will be revisiting this story again and again and look forward to more work from Danica Nava. And narrator Siena East is hilarious!

Representation Matters

Such an adorable rom com with so many relatable aspects as a fellow Indigenous. The authors statement at the end had me in tears. Quyana for the story!
