About this listen

Kurt Vonnegut made his mark as one of America’s most influential writers with novels such as Slaughterhouse Five, named one of the 100 best English-language novels by Time. Published posthumously, While Mortals Sleep is a collection of 16 short stories, written early in Vonnegut’s career, that further cements his status as an American literary icon.

Vonnegut without any holds barred is extremely refreshing stuff, particularly after all the self-censorship in these very politically-prickly days. His is a voice we can trust because it is unafraid to speak out against injustice and cruelty.

I am Kurt Vonnegut fan, have been for 30+ years but was so dissapointed to find these stores were pulled from long, long ago (IMHO) before KV became the writer I love. Nothing wrong with just being 'old' but the pazazzz of KV wasn't yet developed.. I feel I wasted a token getting these short stories. Narrator did great job, just the KV I know wasn't there! sorry to have to say this and I remain a Vonnegut fan, just not a fan of 'While Mortals Sleep'. I still recommend KV, get them, enjoy them.... just not this one.

old stories before he got to be the KV I've loved

The performance is poor. The writing is not fully realized Vonnegut (id recommend staying away from his short stories). The audio mixing is to laugh at. The beginning of the chapter while mortals sleep jumped between all the different words on the page, resulting in an unintelligible word salad. Not as bad as a stroke, but pretty close.

Not worth a credit
