Enjoyable Followup

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

This is the followup to Beneath the Roots. I don't know that this is really a standalone - in that I would not recommend you start with this book without having read Beneath the Roots. I think you really need the foundation of the first book to really appreciate the character development and the choices they make.

The focus here is more on Sir Avery and dealing with becoming an heir to the Kingdom. While Avery still hopes/dreams of Mer, he has to make difficult choices and preserve the Kingdom. This is a very good conclusion and, of course, brings about the hoped for ending. This is great for the entire family with several nice life lessons.

The narration of this book switched to a male voice - Tim Dixon. I presume this is because Avery is the focus. He did a very good job, providing various voices for the characters, allowing the listener to easily differentiate between them

All my questions were answered.

I really enjoyed this audiobook.

After listening/reading the first book, I had so many questions at the end. For me, it felt a little unfinished. Thankfully, all my questions were answered in this book. We find out what happened to Gandel. We learn more about the witch. We find out what happened to the fae. It’s a good story overall.

I loved the ending for Merisande and Avry. I loved the ending for Gandel. I thought everything wrapped up perfectly. Good ending to the series.

Fantastic Series!

This is an extremely well written story. There's a different narrator on book 2 but he does a wonderful job.

Second book so read book one first. Book two continues to offer a unique compelling adventure. This one had my emotions all over the place and it ended perfectly. Just fantastic.

beautifuly written!!!

wow!!! The first book was good if a bit Y.A. This book, White Bird, is so much better!!
The story really shines. The books pace is perfect it grabbed my imagination and held my attention. This novel takes everthing that I enjoyed about the first book and fine tunes it. The plot and character development are spot on. The story has a great deal more depth and heart. It was a very fun book read/ listen to. I really loved it. also, the reader was very good; much more enjoyable than the reader of the last book! i will be looking for more book by this author in the future🌹🌹

The second book is better.

Having personally been in a relationship where I was the one being gaslighted, I was not looking forward to this book after the first one, where the main character was gaslighting everyone.

Mere was still doing this in the second book, and at times I really hoped that Avery would just leave her. No one deserves to be dangled and have their emotions manipulated. I mean, she even treats her own father this way!

When she realizes that there’s a real possibility that she may loose him, she very typically changes her tune. But, and here is where I found respect for her character for the first time, she is willing to let him go. It’s at this point that I started to like her character.

The second book is definitely better than the first. The narrator’s performance was great.

I really enjoyed the first book, and really loved the second also. The writing is great! I thought the narrator did a great job with all of the accents and voices.

Loved it!

This book was delightful. It was a great continuation and ending to Beneath the Roots. It’s refreshing to read a fantasy series that doesn’t get bogged down with massive world building or have a zillion characters to keep track of. The story was well paced and the love story was adorable. Only bummer is that it’s a duology, so there’s no more to come. I will definitely miss Mer and Avry.

A most enjoyable adventure.

This was a well welcomed extension to the Aure realm, and a delight to listen to, after reading the book. I would like to see future books expand on both the history of the Aure kingdom as well as what lies in the future for Avry and Mer.
