Publisher's summary

Soundings and Choc Lit present the audiobook edition of Who Cares If They Die. It starts with the hanging woman in the Maple Valley woods; the woman with no shoes, no car and no name. On paper it’s an obvious case of suicide - but to Officer Dean Matheson, something doesn’t add up.

Then there are the other deaths, deaths that also look like suicides - but are they? The victims are all women living on the fringes of society, addicts and criminals. Who will miss them? Does anyone really care if they die? Dean Matheson is making it his business to care, even if it means he becomes a target....

A serial killer right under their noses

This is first in the series of Dean Matheson. Dean is a patrol cop with marital problems, while recovering from his brother’s suicide. Dean jumps at the opportunity to fill in for a detective, working on an apparent suicide. Enter a new psychiatrist at the women’s correctional facility…with whom Dean takes a liking. When Dean’s estranged wife is killed in a car accident, the small community rallies around him…until it’s revealed that the accident was not an accident…and a junkie did not really overdose. There’s a serial killer on the prowl. The story seems to drag at times but is actually a good one if you stick with it.

These characters suck!!

These characters suck! Beth flirting with a married man, Dean sucks because he kicked his wife out in a snowstorm…makes it hard to get into the story because they’re shitty

Good plot! Wendy’s characters are always great.

The narration sounded like 100’poor Christopher Walken impressions. Listening at a higher speed helped.

just started so I'm not going to judge the contents, BUT....warning

Before purchasing I HIGHLY recommend you listen to a sample of this book. the narrator is British...he narrates in his normal voices, then uses American accents for the conversations. it's really distracting. I love the Madison books so I am going to give this book a try....but just keep in mind that the accents are just not what I was expecting...which is on me since I should have listened to a sample first. I'll complete my review once I finish the book. bye until then!

predictable and awful narration

You know who the killer is from the beginning which was weird. This book is set in New Hampshire but everyone sounds like Christopher Walken (Queens NY accents). Shouldn't drive me crazy but it did. but most of the characters were likeable and that was the only redeeming aspect.

Potential but failed

For a story set in New Hampshire the narrator was British so all characters didn’t sound much like people from New Hampshire. The main character was not the most brilliant cop. Also there were words or sayings that are not used in America. Windscreen instead of windshield, bonnet instead of hood and lounge instead of living room and so on.
