Publisher's summary

What is prayer? The question is rather straightforward, but with a bit of consideration, you might find there is no easy answer. In Why People Pray, Rabbi Mordecai Schreiber examines this elusive nature of prayer, as well as the history of formal prayer and how it has been shaped - and continues to be shaped - by an era of unprecedented globalization.

At the heart of Why People Pray is that very question: Why do we pray? What is it that compels us to have faith or to give it up? Why do we continue to believe in a higher power in spite of discrimination, conflict, illness, and loss?

Rabbi Schreiber’s audiobook introduces a fascinating new supposition: that people of all faiths and all nationalities could conceivably find ways to pray together, using prayers that are universal to all while simultaneously preserving the integrity of each individual faith. He proposes a new approach to prayer in which the spiritual adherents of the world’s religions come together to formulate a universal expression of prayer that does not replace existing creeds, but rather transcends all creeds and gives voice to humanity’s yearning for peace, freedom, and social justice.

Review

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review

This was a good book to listen to about pray. it is always interesting to learn about different religions and how their traditions affect their lives. the only issue that I had with this audio book was the monotone like voice, that seemed to make it drag on and on.

An interesting view

All roads lead to Rome...... well the Author in many ways shares that belief..... he feels the Universal nature of man and
his needs can be shared regardless of their religion.

It is sweet although not realistic in the Trump era but over time who knows maybe this concept will be more accepted
as man faces the effects of Climate change and other challenges that will bring people across the planet together.

The Narrator did a good job with the material and kept it interesting.

Positive mindset

being positive and praying for good things can put you in the right mentality for getting the things you want but you still need to have agency and go and get the things you want. But if prayer can work i think it'll put you in the right place.
