About this listen

Writer, poet, and teacher Natalie Goldberg shows you how to unleash your "wild mind" - the true source of your creative power. In this crisp mix of memoir, teaching guide, nonfiction and poetry, Goldberg strips creativity to the essential mind that is "raw, full of energy, alive, and hungry." Natalie is compassionate, practical, and humorous. "Even if it's just a leg hanging out the window, she says, "write it down." Highlights include: provocative "try this" exercises to compel you into action, advice on how to find time to write, how to discover your personal style, how to make sentences come alive, and how to overcome procrastination and writer's block. She'll also explore the larger vision of the writer's task: knowing when to take risks as a writer and a person, learning self-acceptance in life and art.©1990 Natalie Goldberg (P)1994 Writer's AudioShop Creativity Words, Language & Grammar Writing & Publishing Inspiring Witty

Critic reviews

"Goldberg gets my hand moving again when writer's block grips it. Her method is my method: Lose the censor, free the writer in yourself." (Erica Jong)
"[It's] about accepting yourself, wherever you are, whatever you write." (Kate O'Neill, Sojourner)

Get to know Natalie Goldberg

This book is fun to listen to and it's short and to-the-point. The narration by the author can be funny. She left a number of moments in the recording where she breaks down and laughs and makes some funny self-deprecating comments. This book is helpful for writers who are stalled out, can't get started or are just having a difficult time believing that they have something worth saying. Goldberg frees people up.

From a real writer

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. If you need an "I can do it" kick, this is a good read

What did you like best about this story?

Natalie is great to connect with in her story.

What about Natalie Goldberg’s performance did you like?

She has a lot of personality in her reading, because it is about her and her core.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

You are great if you will just show others, they will love you and what you do.

Any additional comments?

If you are trying to write a book, I would recommend this one. She is cool and easy to fall in love with as you connect with her story. The theme is just write. Volume is king and being open and raw is the key. Read this book to write yours, but also just read this book for the fun of it. Let a new friend in your car - you will enjoy it.

Audio quality is awful

The audio quality is so bad that it was difficult to listen. Love Natalie Goldberg, but this needs to be re-recorded.
