About this listen

From the bestselling author of The Memory of Butterflies comes the first in a bittersweet series about love and loss.

Kara Hart was scarred by loss - first the loss of her mother and now her husband. She feels broken, with no will to move forward, until her father does the unexpected: he moves to the Virginia countryside to restore an old Victorian mansion. Kara decides to go with him, telling herself that it will only be temporary.

The huge house is neglected and derelict, but Kara discovers its breathtaking field of wildflowers and is stunned by their beauty. The house, the grounds, and the quirky neighbors - including a handsome one - are almost as fascinating as her father’s sudden willingness to discuss her mother and his own secret past.

Kara is finding her new normal when tragedy strikes again, forcing her to make difficult choices. Will she go back to her old life and risk losing all she has gained? Or will she face her fears and give herself the opportunity to grow?

Strenght comes from within

The main charcharacter has alot of self esteem issues, but as the storyline progresses you can see her strenght come in baby steps. Wonderfully written, charismatic characters and devoted. The characters are very well established for the next novel to dive straight into.

Heartbroken Heroine

Narrator was good. Story was good too. The heroine certainly had some bad experiences in life. The challenge as a reader (listener) was tolerating her curt style and brittleness. The point of the story for me was about resilience. I might have enjoyed more time with her as she succeeded and began to enjoy life; listening for her to become less guarded and angry. If you enjoy the warm and romantic "let's open a country B&B" stories with endearing characters, this isn't that.

what happened at the end?

This was very promising I felt like the story was really good but then at the last couple of chapter I felt like it was getting very weak and the ending really left me speechless I really didn't feel any closer or any conclusion I felt like many things were still missing, I know that I have to continue in book two but I think this was enough for me.

The narrations were the best of the whole story and book, I really enjoy Amanda's work and I'm looking forward to listening to her more.

Good book, good story but the last chapters weren't for me.

Wildflower

Cara, I got confused at times. Because Cara would say or think one way and then it was changed again. I thought the write up about the book was better than the book. Disappointed.

Real

Unlike other reviews I have read, not having a full resolution or a ‘happy’ ending makes this a real story. It reflects true life. I don’t understand people like Cara who are this reticent but it helps me understand them better. Really like the promise of the future and this could lead to a series of the author so chooses.

Wonderful

This book painted such an amazing picture. I fell in love with the wildflower house and could almost imagine myself here. The voice reading the words had such a tone i felt like a friend listening to another friend her stpry.

So incredibly slow

The story moves at a snail's pace. I was easily distracted when listening to it. 9 hours for a story that could have been completed in no more than 6.
