Publisher's summary

Though still mourning his recent loss, George Orton is surprisingly content. He's living in a secure compound where teenaged werewolf Ally is being trained to control her animalistic tendencies, and mad science experiment Eugene has regained most of his sanity. George knows they can't stay there forever, but for now, things are pretty good.

Then he receives some shocking news: People at the compound have brought his partner and best friend Lou back to life. Not as a flesh-eating zombie; he's the old Lou, as much of a wiseass as before.

But this comes with a great big string attached: George and Lou must take a cross-country road trip to kill Asher Anderson, a cloak-wearing lycanthrope who would love to see a war between humans and werewolves.

Does everything go wrong? Of course it does. This is George and Lou.

But they won't travel alone. Because Lou isn't the only one who was brought back to life...

Wolfed it down

Jeff Strand perfects his own genre of books, with the tightest, funniest horror there is. Absolutely brilliantly plotted, with hilarious dialogue. And hilariously delivered by the exceptional talent of Scott Thomas

Amazing series

Great werewolf series with great characters. The comedy is top notch, melds well with the wacky scenarios. Also narrator adds a great deal by bringing the characters to life.

Strand is a genius

The first 2 Wolf Hunt books are a riot and Wolf Hunt 3 is even more so. George and Lou are the two hit man you want to encounter on a dark night. OH yeah and there are Werewolves.

After Lou’s death in book 2, how can George possibly continue on? Of course they will need George’s help with this...but can George do it without Lou? Seriously doubt it...listen here to find out what happens. Hope there's a part 4 coming!

probably the happiest ending you'll get out of a Jeff Strand story, without sacrificing the violence. Scott Thomas is great at bringing every character to life as always. Great series.

A let down.. here’s why...

***SPOILERS***

Before I say this, I have to say... as w/ book 1&2, our amazing narrator did AMAZING!!!! (Though I caught ONE error hehe! When Ally is being taking up to the wolf castle... he has Lou call her “ABBY”, twice in a matter of seconds!! If that’s my only complaint!? Then he’s AMAZING!!!!

After book 1, I found myself thinking, I REALLY LIKE IVAN! He’s a horrible monster, but his personality is written so well that you can’t help but want more of him, & in a twisted way I found myself secretly wishing Ivan would team up w/ our 2 boys!!!

Then book 2 came around, & no sign of Ivan, my hopes seemed finished. However, I found myself REALLY intrigued by Shane & Crabs both... Robin was written... very bizarre for some reason ... she’s smart but dumb, confident, yet a near lap dog to Shane, claims she loves Ally, but then suddenly hates her... idk. She was just OFF... but the book... it was good. I loved Ally, & Eugene stole everyone’s heart!!! A SOLID book #2

Then book 3... wow... I WANTED to love it!!! IVAN IS BACK!? AND HES GONNA TEAM W/ OUR BOYS!?!? I was patiently going over witty lines in my mind as to how Ivan would react once he seems George & Lou!!! But then... I found myself having to struggle to get through scenes... (Ivan’s escape/bar attack/gas station hillbillies/& then 2
Random hillbillies, which felt like textbook “filler”...)

I kept thinking, OKAY WHERE IS THAT ADVENTURE OF IVAN & THE BOYS!? But... it never really happens... Ivan has one OKAY scene in the bar... but then he’s basically a cripple, & spends the final 3+ hours of the book laying in the van asleep, or being carried by George & Lou.. needless to say... it wasn’t what I’d hoped for...the Ivan I met in part 1... he was missing ... if you like myself, cried laughing as Ivan told George how vaginas can have TEETH... then you were begging for more of that crazy woofy... NOPE! Not really...&, Ally & Eugene are both just... kinda THERE... they do very little.

I’m sad to say, but THIS book... was EASILY the worst of the 3, & if I didn’t know... I’d honestly say it would have fit as the #2 book, to fill in gaps & build up to the crazy climax!!! You know book #1 was TIGHT w/ it’s story, it just flowed naturally! #2, while had its wonky moments w/ Robin, & other things... Eugene/Crabs/Shane/...EVEN ALLY!! They ALL were great additions!!

Then #3... let me just go over why I just felt let down...

PLOT: Master Werewolf is trying to start a war between humans & wolves. Ivan, AND Lou are both brought back from the dead! They’ll have to work TOGETHER to stop a possibly apocalyptic war!!!... yeahhhh.... then it started...

It BEGINS well enough. However, the Master Werewolf... we get almost NO screen time to know... about a page at the start, & then about 20 minutes at the end..? I wondered if it would be a cliff hanger even...

So the gang is forced to work together.. I’m invested so far!!!

Filler sequence #1: stopping at a gas station, the boys are approached & held up by a group of gas station hillbillies for probably about (NO JOKE) 30+ MINUTES.. why?? No clue. They want to take Ivan out of his cage to know he’s not being kidnapped... absolutely NOTHING comes of this... Ivan I guess kinda plays along w the team... & after a long scene... we are on the road..

Oh wait... not even, 1 page??? FILLER SEQUENCE #2: Theyre followed by a random car... & after very random dialogue... our boys are tricked & taken to a bar, by who if I remember is, Dweys brother?? W/ his own gang... this is where Ivan is basically out ... his legs are broken, & for the remainder of the book... he does absolutely NOTHING. After another long drawn out “we want payback” scene, Lou n George get away w/ a broken up Ivan ... though the scene wasn’t BORING... it was forced... & it tbh just felt so cliche... there is another good 40-50+ minutes burned away...

Now Ivan is totally useless, legs broken, they’re back on the road.... & to my utter annoyance now... not 3 pages later, another few regular bad guys are running them of the road.... FILLER SEQUENCE #3: 2 Inbred hillbillies wreck the van, n take our boys hostage ...(what else...? Oh & NO, we have not had ANY dialog, or even talk about Asher, the Werewolf King or wtv. Gotta get in this junk...) one is a small, sadistic guy, one is a massive, “slow” one.... they’re taken for a cabin I guess.. tied up, & about to be killed (don’t ask me why these guys are even doing this to George n Lou... I have no idea???) they trick the big guy to kill the small one... after a normal fight scene, &
ANOTHER 30+ min burned... they’re ready to hit the road AGAIN... (oh n yeah, Ivan now also not only has broken legs, but wrists too.. really not how I’d hope it would go...)

These 3 scenes... none of them needed to be in the book.. MAYBE ONE... they added NOTHING AT ALL to the story...& after about 3-4 hours of that filler stuff... we finally arrive at the werewolf
Compound...

Is there a Werewolf war coming? Nah. Is Asher the big bad you’d been waiting for for 3 books? Nah. (I’d say Shane/Crabs/Ivan were All EASILY better baddies, not even CLOSE... heck... J.P was better. & yes... I’m very aware that the “war” has a twist to it... but if I’m being real... I saw that twist a mile away.... you don’t install the “MELT” into Lou, & stay a “good guy...”

Ivan never gets more than ONE “okay” action scene... & his final moments are such a massive letdown, WOW!!! They get the job done... & we get some wonky speech about family...the end...

It HONESTLY felt it would’ve fit better as #2, & used it to set up an awesome climax... it just felt so lazy.. n Jeff Strand isn’t lazy. I hope this wasn’t done as a cash grab... cuz tbh... all the cliche moments were killing me...

Then all the nonsensical plot holes...

1) WHY exactly bring Lou back? He was going to kill him anyways, & he was counting on IVAN to do the job... so there’s no reason for Lou...

2) a WEAKENED Ivan in #2 wasn’t even phased by a tranq dart. Yet, now they take him out cold in a matter of moments??

3) Dewys brother is doing all that to avenge him.. n he had NO CLUE that werewolves were a thing..?

4) How did the 2 hillbillies even know anything about them?? They just chose them at random??

5) Why is J.P doing CLEARLY evil things at the start...? No one is fooled at all that he ISNT full of ... you know... it’s CLEAR that he IS “the bad guy” the first time we meet him.

6) SO WHY DOES LOU SEEM IMMORTAL!? To be fair, this could be covered in #4 they spend lots of dialog on it... but it’s just shrugged off.

7) Ally, a fairly popular girl, just had her mother & fathered murdered... yet no one at all was looking for her.. she had no other family? Friends???

8) ITS NOT A “CLIP”!!!! ITS A MAGAZINE!!! Magazines are what you put into a pistol to chamber ammo... CLIPS are used to close potato chip bags. Learn it, or don’t talk about firearms, it’s beyond cringe &
Ignorant to those who know.

I could go on... gosh... I found #1 INCREDIBLE... #2 was enjoyable... then #3, you give me Ivan WITH our 2 Thugs!?!?? It felt like Christmas at first.. but all it felt like was trying to finish the book so it could be sold lol. You may think I’m just joking & “hating” when I say Ivan spends 70% of the book laying in the van w/ broken legs & wrists...? I don’t know why that felt for him to be a good idea..,

ANYWAYS... it wasn’t BAD... however, compared to the first 2? Nah.. not great!!

Still love JEFF!! & I HOPE for #4 :)

A fun conclusion

George and Lou are some of my favorite characters, and I loved their redemption arc in these books. George and Lou started off book one as absolutely despicable characters but over the course of the series, made a lot of personal growth, which I loved. These two characters turned a fun little werewolf story into a "tail" to remember! Yes I know my pun was dorky. I'm OK with that.

Go buy the Wolf Hunt Trilogy!

This was an excellent conclusion to the Wolf Hunt series, I really enjoyed it.
I wouldn’t recommend it as a stand alone. It is a complete story, but you will get so much more out of it if you know the main characters.
I don’t typically enjoy horror, violence or gore, but because of the great cast of characters and humor this was still very fun for me.
Narration is simply amazing. Character distinction, pace, conveying of emotions and humor.. all perfectly done. It’s a treat to listen to!

Highly recommended for people who enjoy horror and humor.
But go buy the Wolf Hunt Trilogy, instead of this book! The complete trilogy for 1 credit is an awesome deal.

I got this Audio Book for free (thanks!). I'm voluntarily leaving this review.
