About this listen

In the tradition of Peter Matthiessen's Wildlife in America or Aldo Leopold, Brenda Peterson tells the 300-year history of wild wolves in America. It is also our own history, seen through our relationship with wolves. The earliest Americans revered them. Settlers zealously exterminated them.

Now, scientists, writers, and ordinary citizens are fighting to bring them back to the wild. Peterson, an eloquent voice in the battle for 20 years, makes the powerful case that without wolves, not only will our whole ecology unravel, but we'll lose much of our national soul.

Wolf stories to be treasured for generations

I love wolves and in this book it covers all to be appreciated about this species. The author is truly gifted in articulating recent stories of wolves around the United States and depicts the importance of keeping this keystone species protected. Amazing work!

I Could not finish this book

I’m heartbroken with our past and continuing treatment of this beautiful, well adapted predator, who serves an important role in the environmental balance in the United States wilderness.
I listened to the point where Alaska was opening up the hunting and killing (slaughtering) of wolves from the air. I had to stop at that point, I just couldn’t listen to any more. At some time I will go back and finish this great and necessary book.

As someone who Grew up in California with the back drop of a majestic mountain range, I hiked the high Sierra, Yosemite and Kings Canyon regions. I stand in ahh of the beauty and respect Mother Nature.

Biased

Very biased on the side of wolf advocates. Gets a little more objective towards end. I’ve found the book Beyond Wolves: The Politics of Wolf Recovery and Management much more objective and holistic.

Virtue Signaling With Wolves.

No wonder it was free on audible! I am glad I didn’t pay for this one. Had good parts, and had potential but was spoiled by an almost constant flow of virtue signaling. There are many other books out there on the subject of wolf repopulation.

Author forgot about wolves for a political rant

I got the book to increase my knowledge of wolves, not to learn about the political views of the author. Other really good books available on wolves are available on Audible.

Full of the Author's Political Bias.

Couldn't stand to hear the author's distain for republicans! I just wanted to know more about wolves. I'm so sick of people making every part of life about democrat or republican. I skipped the chapter when it started hoping it would get back to a book about the come back of a "wolf nation" but it kept creeping in. I couldn't finish listening to it! So Disappointed!!!

Boring political book

I wanted to learn wolves. I already agree that we should respect & care for wild animals and their environments. This book was too boring and depressing,
