About this listen

Jane Goodall's destiny has been blessed with faith, resolve, and purpose. From a little girl inspired by Tarzan, she became the woman who worked alongside famed paleontologist Dr. Louis Leakey, accomplished scientific breakthroughs in Gombe, and ultimately became a champion of the environment. The journey has not been without its crises; she endured the horrors of World War II, assaults on the integrity of her work, a hostage-taking at Gombe, and her husband's slow, agonizing death. But throughout, her religious convictions have helped her survive - and Jane Goodall's pursuit of science has enhanced, not eroded, her belief in God. In this biography, she candidly shares her life, as well as the Gombe chimpanzees she introduced to the world nearly forty years ago. And she gives us convincing reasons why we can and must open ourselves to the saints within each of us. At one with nature and challenged by the man-made dangers of environmental destruction, inequality, materialism, and genocide, Dr. Goodall offers insight into her perceptions of these threats and celebrates the people who are working for Earth's renewal. Here, indeed, is Reason for Hope.©2000 Jane Goodall (P)16 9; 1999 Time Warner AudioBooks (Packaging Elements Only), A Division of Time Warner Trade Publishing Adventurers, Explorers & Survival Biological Sciences Christianity Conservation Environment Ministry & Evangelism Nature & Ecology Outdoors & Nature Professionals & Academics Science Science & Technology Women Heartfelt Thought-Provoking

Jane Goodall seems to have a meditative lucidity in her descriptions and discussions. Her reflections on her apes and ensueing assessments of humanity are too much... I can't get enough. This is a super-compelling story.

I loved this book because jane’s thoughts line up with mine in so many ways and I was drawn into how nice/cheerful she is. This is one of my favor religious and science books. And she does such a good job of calling us all to do our best to save the planet. She lives what she preaches and is passionate about it. Any scientist or naturalist or environmentalist or open minded Christian/other religion would love this book

Brilliant and sobering

As is her book and I could listen to her read for hours (or did really….lol). Some real nuggets of gold here!

Jane is amazing

Sloppy editing mistake ! Readers Beware, chapter 4 is erroneously placed before chapter 3 - which completely disrupts the flow of this beautiful life story, wonderfully narrated by the author who cannot help but touch the heart and soothe aching sadnesses. After recovering from the discombobulating error and almost giving up on the book, I was again moved - to the core.

Beautiful and touching

I'm not normally a fan of "spiritual" books, but Jane Goodall's REASON TO HOPE blended together the right amount of intellectual and spiritual discovery. What I wouldn't give to spend an hour with this amazing, pioneering woman. A true inspiration.

Beautifully Written, Wonderfully Thought-provoking

While I knew Jane was a remarkable woman, I did not expect her to make me question so many moral issues in one short book. I have fallen into deep respect and admiration for her, much more than I could have thought possible. A must read for everyone in our current world. Thank you Jane!
